Need some advice, hoping someone can give me a hand. i built my first grow box( and this is my first grow) and the dimensions for my box is 2ftx2ftx5ft tall. i covered the inside with reflective material(as shown in pic) and sealed it up good. as far as my lighting goes i got a 150watt sun system hps (pumping out 16,000 lumens) and i have 4 45 watt( incadennt would be 200watt) producing 4100 k a peice. i also have a 200 wattcfl(actuall watts) at 5000k (coming in the mail anytime soon).i have my tent hookd up to my kitchens exhaust fan , i can feel air getting suckd in butt not strong enought im guessing cause my issue is HOW HOTT IT IS IN THERE!! i got 2 fans in there also one 8' and one 6' fans and wen i have all the lights on it gets between 90-100 f( 35-40 degrees). just today my seed germinated and i planted in soil this morning. im growing black water kush( the cali connection) and im just wondering how the hell do i keep the temp down in there. what temp should i keep it at??? ppl say kush is used to high temps while others say grow between 20-30 dgrees or 60-80 f.and if its too hot, what would everyone suggest to use?? ............... PLEASE HELP.

Hey dude I'm no pro but I'll giv it a go. Ok first off what made you buy 3 different types of light? I'm geussing its what you've got on hand. If you have receipts you should take it all back and buy a 250w hps. The trouble your having with the temp is due to two things 1 the incandescant light 2 the ventilation system. You are going to need both a centrifugal fan and carbon filter unless you have something else in mind for killing the odour off. For your airspace and heat issues I reccomend a 4" exhaust system rigged up to a thermostat so that you can set the temperature at 28 max and 26 optimum. Plants do not like the temps your tent is running at, they will dry out burn and die. Your best bet is to simply disconnect from your kitchen exhaust and redirect out a window or into attic or crawlspace. Where you have the ducting joining the tent should go like this. Tent>fan>filter>ducting>outside the rooms air mass . Your fan should be plugged into a thermostatic controller which is then plugged into power. When the room reaches 28'C the power will be allowed to flow from the controller to the fan which will suck the hot air from the top of the room and blow it thru the carbon filter and thru the ducting to the area of ur choice. Make a small hole at the bottom of your tent but no bigger than the 4" hole for the fan. This creates negative pressure which ensures that air is allways being sucked into the tent rather than leaked out. Iif you aare stuck with the lights you've got use the cfl for getting plants upto flower height then use the 150 to flower them. Your incandescant bulb isn't going to add any significant bud mass. They're allright for new cut clones but not much else.

sry should of explained it better 4 45 watts actual cfl wattage and a 150 watt hps for the lighting.....no incandescant ......... and great thanks man!! so pretty much the exhaust i have pretty much isnt strong enought right? which is y its to hot? and im just tryin to grow 1 or 2 for now you think i need to get all that thermostat and crabon filter??? i mean i smoke in my apt so that should be equal comparison no??:bigjoint:

Hahahaha definatley not! The odour of a plant is very very strong. If ur only growin 2 all that wud happen if u were to get caught is a slap on the wrist. I would personally never grow without odour controll. Isntead of a thermostat you could ball park it and run ur exhaust off a timer. Simply put a thermometer in your tent at lights on. Wait till your room reaches 28'c and switch the fan on, time how long it takes with the fan running for the room to return to 26'c. That's ur exhaust time. Switch off the exhaust fan and time how long it takes the room to reach 28'c again. That's your interval. So say it takes 2 mins to get room back down to 26'c. And 3 mins for it to return to 28'c. You will need a digital timer that works in minute incriments. Programme it so its on for 2 mins then off for 3 and so on that should keep u bout right. Should invest in a min max memory thermometer. This records min and max temps in ur grow. So you can see if you've had a temp spike and adjust your exhaust duration/ interval to suit :D

Yeah dude u got it there. I don't think humiditys gonna b a problem here due to how long that fans gonna b runnin for. When ur seeds pop make sure to not blast them with light right away I'd probably use 1 cfl first, all seedlings need from light is the indication of night/day. Once your plants are more enhanced say once you see 5 or 6 sets of fan leaves use the 150w hps. You'd be supprised at how cheap a thermostatically controlled exhaust fan is especially a 4" one probz get one for £80???? Maybe :D

shit thanks man i just switched it to 1 cfl for now like you said....yeah thats not bad at all, it will pay off in the end for personel. tired of gettin ripped off and crazy prices.. after the fan leaves come in you think i can use the hps for the rest of veg and into flowering........where do you think i can pick up a thermostatically controlled exhaust fan

http://www.biofloral.com/en/Brand/Can-Filters/CAN-FAN-THERMOSTATIC-CENTRIFUGAL-FAN-4-240V-1.aspx found this one. Its the top of the range one tho so a lot is to be saved by finding a less well known brand. Can fans are the dogs bollocks tho. Yeah wait til she's about 8 inch then use the hps. Start off as far away as possible and drop daily to prevent stress. Plants can only use a certain ammount of light which is dependant on how advanced they are. First concerntrate on building a healthy root mass then concerntrate on building up the rest of the plant.
