Building My Own Grow Closet: Could Use Some Insight...+rep

I want To Grow MJ In A Custom Built Closet. I am gonna spend around 400 dollars on the initial setup. My Grow Closet Needs To be At Least 8 Feet High. The Closet will be broken down into two sections. Germinating/Seedling/Cloning/Veg. and the Other section Will Be for Flowering. I want my plants in this section to reach 7.75 feet high before harvest. Hopefully producing A Nice Yield. How much room would I need in the 2nd Part of the closet. I want to put at least 2 5 gallon pots. Do you think this is a good setup. I know Im gonna have to put fans for ventilation and etc. But my goal is to harvest and grow as much as possible with a limited amount of space.

sounds good, for two plants in 5gal buckets at minimum a 2x4 area I would recommend 3x5 depending on strain and size

7.75' with an 8' ceiling is not possible. You have the heighth of your 5 Gal bucket: 1'; you have the heighth of your light/hood: 10-12"; and you have the heighth needed in between the light and the canopy to preven burning/bleaching. 5'-6' plants are more realistic (6 is almost too much).

Lol, my initial cabinet cost I had a budget of around $400 too, now Im at about 600 and not quite finished putting it together ;)

You're probably going to want a 600w light if you want your plants that tall, the 400 wont get enough light to the lower branches.

So if I had Two 5 gal. in the flowering chamber growing at maximum height how much would that produce? And I read some where earlier today that you could keep your closet growing at a rate to where you will always be able to germinate-harvest all basically at the same time...

Like I said before I wanna be able to always have a nice amount of buds. I like to smoke and have chronic back pain due to a football injury, and I dont wanna risk buying off the streets every other day. Maryland dosent have marijuana meadical cards!

With two plants in 5 gal, you could see anywhere from 2-8 zips on your first grow (if you nute correctly/dont burn your plants, etc). Your next harvest would be even better since you'd know what went well/ what didnt and could adjust growing techniques as necessary.

What you want is called a perpetual grow. Where you are always harvesting every month or so. Im doing a semi-perpetual grow. I have a seperate veg/flower chamber, so Ill start from seed and when that plant is in its 5th week of flower, Ill germ my next seeds and throw them into veg. When I harvest that crop, I throw my newly vegged plants into flower, giving me a harvest every other month or so.

I feel ya man, I have a bad knees from skiing moguls for years and the herb has been great to me.

Ok Ima newbie and everything but whats a zip? Im more familiar with ounces...etc.

And If your talking about ziplock bags those vary.

not to mention I have always wondered about ordering seeds. Cause as of right now my trial and errors are strictly from bag seeds I have been saving for years. But why grow shit when you can grow The SHIT...lol...

And how much energy would 2 power strips take at the same outlet? Would I blow shit? Would it be suspicious on the house?(such as watt usage and heat usage)

Oh sorry lol: zip = 1 ounce :D

Ordering seeds is quite easy; if you know where to go.

The Attitude Seedbank <--- Great, safe, reliable, and quick place to order seeds. Ships to US no problem. They have some very high quality strains. Check out seeds from Reserva Privada, Doggies Nuts, DNA Genetics, Greenhouse, TGA Subcool, to name a few. Theres many other seedbanks but this one is the most reliable and has the biggest inventory.

As for the power strips... depends. How many Amps will all your equipment use? Get a power strip rated for 15Amps. Most rooms in a house have a 15A current supplied, so if your usage goes over 15, either use less, or youll have to rewire a new line to your room with a greater amperage rating.

I dont want nothing outrageous for example i want enough lighting to make everything be at its best! But at the same time I understand production cost...lol...but lets say I want above average but want it to be worth it...I just dont want the cops come knocking on my door cause im producing to much wattage....Do I just got to figure out what room can withstand what. Cause with fans, timers, lights, etc. all into the same wall out let(2 wall plugs) I just wanna be safe on my end.

I got this starting seedling soil stuff from lowes and transplanted from the germination stage(wet napkin) to the greenhouse little pod starter kits they sell and at first it was slow but like the next day I had 1 sprouted but then the next day all of them were like 5 inches tall with like 4 leafs...thats when I removed them from the top container(greenhouse top) to the little light I had which was little cfl lightbulb and I think there pretty much in a state of shock right now. But I think its because im still using the same starter soil?

And yes this will be a soil method if you havent figured out now...I dont think im ready for the hydroponics system yet...lol

Whats a good soil? Nutrients? For Indoor....

Sounds like your in the same boat as me for quantity then. Im only going to grow 2 plants at one time (just enough for personal use) so Im using a 400w HPS in flower and 6 42w 6500k CFL's for my veg room. Along with fans it runs about 8-10 Amps; so it's easily doable for a normal room outlet. Honestly if you get what I have, your electric bill will only go up maybe $20 a month.

As for soil, I usually get Miracle grow soil; some people hate it, Ive never had a problem with bugs/gnats. I will use Jack's Classic Dynamic Duo for nutes as they are cheap and very good. There's a couple threads on here about them.

You know, I dont think I will ever get into hydro either, since I only plan on ever having 2 plants. Soil is easy.

I heard Miracle Grow has timed released nuts? Where could I get my lights from cause I think Im looking in the wrong places? Im trying not to have to order anything online! Does anyone know anything about top soil?

Yeah MG has time release nutes; but they only last for three months which is why I will feed fine some when they start flowering (if they get burned I cut back).

As for where to get lights, any hydro store in your area should carry HPS/CFL lighting. Although sometimes they wont be as cheap as online sources.

So what should I look for in the nutrients? Are they different depending on stage of growth? I was looking at this nut called floralicious...thats just for flowering and yielding...but its a 1-1-1 is that bad? Should I find the same nute for the veg stage?

Something around a 10-30-20 is good for the whole life of the plant, and a 20-20-20 is good for flowering. It doesnt really matter, playing around with the strength of each dose is going to be up to you; it's strain dependent. So whatever strain you get, make sure you do a search on here to see what others have done with nutes. There's really no bad nutes, but I'd stay away from the $80 "Bud Candy" or whatever it's called.

Yeah it's supposedly some really good nutes for MJ, but it's basically just overpriced nutes. Yeah they work, but so do cheaper alternatives.
