Bug Zappers in an indoor grow for fungas gnats and other fling pests?

I had the random thought of using a bug zapper for fungus gnat control. I don't have a problem right now but things happen. The zapper would be great in a veg room but but during flowering it could only be used while the lights are on plus, maybe, 10 minutes before and after. Does anyone do this? During lights out I would think they could kill everything because of the lack of any other light.

If you get fungus gnats you can just cover your medium with steel wool. The gnats trying to get to your medium will get shredded as will any new ones being born out of the medium. After around 2 weeks they will be gone.

Hey Doug sorry to necro an old post but I’m new and can’t figure out how to message you. Anyways does this steel wool trick really work? I never heard of it. I was thinking of using sand, I just used some AzaMax today in the soil during transplant but probably applied it too lightly.
I have the real beginnings of a bad situation due to these gnats. The plants have been suffering since birth from them, DE has failed but helped keep it mildly in check. When transplanting the plant was throwing out new roots pretty shallow in the soil so I figured larva were chomping on them.

No worries. So I have never had fungus gnats but everything I read says it works well. Here is a link to a pest company that recommends it, seems to me that is a pretty good indication it works or a professional pest company wouldn't put it on their site. You can Google steel wool for fungus gnats to find all sorts of other information as well. Best of luck with your problem, hope you get them under control.

Anybody else using bug zappers during flower at night? Have mine setup (just set it up) inline with the ballast output so that when they go on the zapper goes on. Would like to leave it on 24/7. but... that 12 hour of darkness thing.
