Buds in the dark???

I was told by a friend who grows that when his ladies are ready for harvest he shuts off the lights and leaves them in the dark for at least a week. Supposedly the causes the buds to create more crystals? I dont understand this concept but his bud is amazing. Any one try this before??? How does it work? Any replys are greatly appreciated.
 
I think he is pulling your leg man....The plant would probably die if it was in pitch black conditions for a week. I never heard of that shit

Leave your plants in the dark for 3 days before harvest. THC concentration is highest at the end of the dark peroid (everyday) so you always harvest then. Plants do majority of their growing durring the night. Each day they store up energy to put on night growth. Leaving the plant dark for 3 days will result in your flowers putting on weight. Remember to also flush your plants if you are not using an organic fertalizer.

It is a common misconception that organics is the best because it is harder. The best depends on what your goal is.

Is it health?
Unless you bake/vaporizer 100% of you MJ lighting it on fire offsets it being better because it is organic.

Is it quality?
If you are a very experenced growr maybe, if you are new to growing (less than 5 years) organic quality is very hard to produce. Organic MJ cost more because it is harder to grow, not better. Obtaining 800ppm is hard to do with a "tea" of bat shit and other organic things.

It is a common misconception that you don't use chemicals in orgainics.
Nitrogen, o2, Carbon, zink, phospheris, calicum, and so on, are all chemicals
Synthized chemicals are just easier to work with, but they do require flushing and curing.

I give my knowledge freely and guess what I know what the fuck I am talking about too. I have taken the scientific approach to growing for 11 years now. Who are you again? J/w though any specific things to look for in bud to tell if its completely organic, ie taste, smell, look, anything to look for to tell if its organic rather than inorganic.

When you burn the MJ in your bowl, if the ash is black, then it was not grown organicly. However just because the ash is white dosen't mean it was grown organic. If flushed properly and cured right, you wont be able to tell.

I've also heard some people like to leave the lights off because light degrades THC so leaving the lights off for the last 2-3 days will maintain more potency. Dunno how effective it is but I thought I'd pass it along.
 
I dunno why that guy doesn't like cloudflyer. He's the first guy to come along and present the facts to back my suspicions about a lot of subjects. As far as the way we grow I am the opposite as him but his explanations are giving me good ideas. He's a maximum effort grower I'm a minimum effort grower but minimum effort requires maximum knowledge can't hate a dude who shares his.

my mind is like a spong please keep talking. i want as much nolage i can get so i have a ?. i herd b4 u switch to 12 n 12 to leave lights off for 24hr. your thout please, and thanks. i luv your grow awsom . please check out my gallery.
 
seems the intent of the original question has gotten lost in here... shut the lights off for a week or at least a few days before harvesting... a family member of mine who has been growing for many years swears that shutting the lights off for 48hours before harvesting forces the plant to release more resin (THC) thereby increasing the potency of your labor. However, I can't say from my relatively brief growing experience if this is true or not.
