Bucket size?

Thinking about starting a dwc setup. Question is 5 gallon buckets seem kind of large to me what would be the smalles size bucket would I be able to get away with? I found some 2 and 3 gallon square buckets for cheap. Would they be sufficient size? The 3 gallon are basically 10x10x11.

yea i read about people who use 3 and 5 gallon and they like it. im using a 35 gallon rubbermaid tote for 3 plants. we'll see if that over kill or not haha but i wanted something cheap and the 25 gallon was too small for 3 plants

I used 5 gallons and it matters on the size, the 5 gallon bucket only held 2 gallons of nutrients at the end of my grow because of how large the root mass was. I would only go smaller with small plants. If I ever did DWC again I would go larger not smaller.
