when growing with the res method ..Can i start the seedlings with this method and also can i grow 4 to 6 plant in the same res or do i need to have a differant res for each plant how many air stones would you's recomend for 4 to 6 plants. Also whats the best media for this system.

Thanks

Hi cron...

If I understand.. correctly....

You can use one res for 1000000000 plants... the key is having the water moving and FULL of AIR... the more airstones the better..

No light should hit the water...when light mixes with the water in the reservoir you will get algae.. algae will consume OXYGEN/AIR.. this is BAD..

im not sure about starting seedlings in the rez. but i dont see why not. in my DWC i have 6 plants in each 25 gallon tub, and 2 24" air curtains. 1 would prolly work, but i just had extra so i used them. in my system im useing 5" net pots filled with hydroton, and my plants are in 2"x2" rockwool.
this sytem is sure easy to setup and use. the only thing that i have had any probs with are the air curtains not sticking to the bottom of the tub. i tied a weight on each of them and that fixed that. and the other prob was roots wraping around my air lines. i ran my air lines inside of water hose, and glue the water hose to the inside of the tub. that way when or if i need to move the plants i can without breaking the roots all up.
good luck

hi gardenknowm and thanks both,,some good advice there i understand the pH but iam having trouble understanding the ppm and what formula to use((can i use ph up and down from my locall pet store?))..Can any one help me out on this please ive read lots of things about pmm and i understand that this very important but they is lots of information about this,,and iam not sure which road to take..I want to get this right 1st time so iam not rushing into growing untill i know the basics of hydro ,,, i have thought of quiting hydro and going with soil but by the looks of things i'am better off going with hydro? so please please help sort this ppm out for me thanks alot cron..Bless ya all.

I have a seperate bubbler for my seedlings and clones. Its just a small RubberMaid tub with a top. I've drilled twenty eight 1 7/8" holes in the lid to accomadate twenty-eight, two inch net pots. I have four, six-inch airstones to bubble the water. I use two, dual-outlet air pumps to drive the airstones. I germinate my seeds using the "Paper Towel" method. Once they have sprouted, they go into one-inch RockWool cubes, then those are placed into the two-inch net pots ... and then placed into the bubbler. The cuttings are done the very same way. Just make the cutting, dip into cloning powder, then put it into the RockWool cube, then into the net pot and you're on your way. I use RO water ... and NO nutes. Nothing except the RO water. Using this method, I consistantley get 100% rooted clones ... and just about the same success rate in growing out the seedlings.

heya viredd, its good to here u use the 2" pots. ive got the 5"ers and they work ok, but i think the 2" would be soooo much better. they would make it to where i wouldnt need the hydroton at all. how do you grow?( SOG or what not) im wanting to give SOG or SCOG with my next crop. now i dont have near enough plants, and the plants i do have i dont know whats male and whats female. but i took a bunch of clones so hopefully ill have enough next time.is there any downside to useing the 2" pots that youve came across?

thanks Viredd..so what your saying when my seedling sprout i can can put them in to a small bubble system with out no nuts ,,but when can i transfer them to larger a bubble system with nuts and what nuts should i use and how do i work out this ppm thing?? please please help me on the nuts and ppm (or point me in the right direction so i can study))it would me much appraiceted many thanks craig.

ppm - parts per million

How much food/nutrients are in your water = ppm

ppm does not tell you what kind of food.. but just how much..
YOU will KNOW what kind of food/nutrients because you will be the ONE putting the nutrients in the reservoir..

You will need a PPM meter... to know the NUMBER of PPM's

Hydroponic and aeroponic nutrients come with formulas on the containers...
These formulas tell you the RATIO of nutrients to add.. for example..

1 hot dog(n), .5 coke(p), 57 french fries(k)

You just keep adding the nutrients in THIS ratio until you get your desired PPMs....

DOes this help you?

The ratio changes for the different life cycles (vegetative or flowering).... this will be on the container of the nutrients....

The PPM changes (is increased) as the plant gets older and BIGGER!! It can handle MORE FOOD!!!

IF the ppm is to high the plant will BURN!!! yikes

and NOW you KNOWM

I've read though that ppm can be misleading, and the better and more accurate way to measure nutrient strength is to measure the electrical conductivity of the nutrient as this scale is more consistant.

Thanks gardenknowm thats a great help so the ppm will be explained on the nuts containers when i buy the nuts?
Thats great.Thanks so much.

The numbers eg.20 5 5 npk(Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium).. does this meen i will get three seperate nuts when i buy?

Also while iam on this subject can i buy anything for a beginner to get a more potent bud and is it nessercrry to flush my plants before harvesting them and if so how long do i flush for??
I dont want to get into anything to completcated as this is all new to me.

Thanks again croniccrag

The ppm may or may not be explained.. but the ratio of NPK will be set...

You can start with a low PPM.. lets say 200 - 300.. and then increase it slowly.. 100 ppm every 3 days... until your leaves are dark dark green.. then lower the PPM about 100...

Many growers lower the PPM to less than 100 during the final 7-14 days of harvest.. this is called a FLUSHING.. there are also products that people use to FLUSH....
cheers

On my most recent harvest, I flushed and used Advanced Nutrients' "Final Phase." I changed the res and used only pure RO water and the "Final Phase" for the last seven days of the grow. The smoke is real smooth and tasty.

After the seedlings are large enough, and the cuttings are rooted, the plants are transfered from the 2" pots into 3 7/8" pots for the final vegging and flowering. They go from two, twenty-watt floros, to a 600 HPS.

If you want to grow using the SOG method, try for Four (4) plants per square foot. The idea is to grow single cola plants, that look like spears, that produce between 1/4 and 1/2 ounce each. Most SOG growers grow a LOT of plants, so you have to assess the risk. SCROG growers, on the other hand, grow fewer plants, but train them under a screen to stretch out and each bud site grows vertically above the screen. That's why its called Screen of Green.

where can i buy the right ratio fertalizer?
Ive read some where start using a 20 5 5 fertalizer then when flowering i should change it to 5 15 15 are these the right npK?(but the ppm changes through out the process) And will this npk work ok for a bubble system and blueberry..Ive looked on a few gardening sites and cant find fertalizer with that npk!

Thanks for all your help i feel like iam getting some where.

Does anyone know where i can buy a bubble system which will hold six full grown plants..

Or can anyone give me advice on how to make a bubble system after all this will probley save me money ,Any advice on making a small one for clones would be great aswell.

my bubbler setup is just about as cheap as o could get it, but seems to be kickin ass so far.
5.00 tote
4.00 air pump
2.00 air lines and T's
3.00 net pots
2.00 air 24"curtain
10.00 100 count rockwool slab
1.00 a lb for hydroton (my six plants have about 2lbs for all)
less than 30.00 bucks for 6 plants is about as cheap as i could go. im useing 5" pots but if you could use smaller pots or use 4"x4" rockwool you wouldnt need the hydroton and that would save some. add your nutes and thats it.
you will need a ph up/down,TDS meter, and PH tester and those vary in prices from 20.00 to 100's
hope this helps and good luck

PS
red i was asking more about the yeild from SOG compaired to SOG or just reg growing for the same space. if the yeild is worth the effort?
