Broken Stems

In the vegetative stage if a plant has a broken stem, not all the way through, about half way, and you tie it up does it still live? I've seen this in hibiscus, and I've tied it and it's grown but I'm not so sure how similar these two plants are.

Last year, my cat toppled over one plant, she was a decent size too, about 48" tall, and she snapped right in half! Not completely through, but broke in half, and I got a straw, took a razor and sliced it down the middle and wrapped it around the stem, like a bandage. Within 5 days, it was completly healed.
What was kind of neat was that where it broke was about double the thickness of the rest of the stem cause the plant was concentrating on that one spot.

thats pretty sweet video... its like a band-aid on us... in birth, a plant can die and come back to life.... i had a plant growing for 2 weeks.... and it looked as if it were dead... the whole thing was brown... so i knew it was dead so i planted 2 more babys and 2 weeks later IT CAME BACK TO LIFE!! :O then at about a month... one died one wasent growing and one was male... so i killed the male, pulled the others

You know those pencils you get from miniature golf? well I stuck that in the soil next to my baby, and used hemp to tie her to it, so far she still moves towards the light so she will be all right  she is a tiny bit taller than the pencil and I say she with the utmost hope.
