I just paid $12 for seven BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000-C-B3 at Arrow.
$5 more per strip than one month ago.
Other distributors will not have any for a month or two.
Wow, that's almost twice as much digikey want's. Usually arrow has better prices ...


Digikey has 1 footers in stock for 4 bucks each. I may order a few for the hell of it. I got a design idea for them.
Just checked the delivery date. New stripes are for the 3.3. announced, good 3,5 weeks ...

On 1/17/2018 I paid $54.90 for seven. Yesterday seven cost me $83.89. All came from Arrow.

If the price was $11.98 a month ago I would have gotten the Samsung F-Series. At $7.36 the BX Gen2 was very competitive with the F-Series. Supply and demand at work.

I'm going to do two side lighting and wanted the same strips on both sides.

Arrow has the 3500K and 5000K for the $7.611, it is only the 3000K, 4000K, and 5700K that they charge a premium for, because where else ya gonna get em?

I picked up four for my build today before the 10% off promotion ends after spending all week trying to decide if I really wanted to spend the extra money but eventually settled on the fact that the $16 difference wasn't worth the hour I spent staring at the two prices for the past few weeks.

That makes sense to me - the human eye would be more sensitive to 620 than 650 so that frequency (620) would appear brighter even if its fewer photons than 650.
You nailed it.

The Luxeon Red Meat is very similar. Peaks at 635 nm in radiometric watts and 602 nm in Lux.

Hello,
I'm choosing to use 560mm Eb Gen2. strips. I'm going to build two grows, one with 5700k strips and another with 3000k strips (veg and bloom).
I will use 9 strips with the hlg-185h-c1050b driver for each grow (9x5700k and 9x3000k)
Does anyone have any other recommendations or corrections?
I think of putting 4x strips on the top, 3x strips on background and 1x strip on each side (left and right)
Each space has 0,4m2 (0,8 x 0,5cm) and 1m height
Putting strips in this position can improve production ??

You don't need 5700°k for vegging, 4000°k is enough blue and easier to get and no min. order.
I would also use different drivers. For the veg area a HLG-120 and 6 strips would be enough. And the bloom area need to have a bit more power, 12pcs 3500°k strips and a HLG-240 would be much better.
In veg you use 18-20h light over the day but in bloom its only 12h. To get equally amounts of light on each side(with small advantage on the bloom side) you need to compensate the difference with higher powered lights.

I would use a simple 6 strip fixture above the plants with no side lights in the veg area. For the other room I would use 4 strips above the plants and 8 strips for side lights, two on each wall. This way you get small and compact veg growth and in the flower room when they stretch out you get fat nugs down to the ground and a nice and long top cola and I believe that's what you looking for..

thanks for the answer, I'm from Brazil and in the forums here people said I'm crazy when I quoted to use led strips and put the strips on the side wall hahahha idiots
you are right, it does not make sense to use the strips on the side for vegetation, it is better to work on other techniques like SCROG, END, etc.
I found the 5700k and 3000k strips without minimum order, I thought those temperatures would have a better efficiency.
Can you recommend a digital potentiometer that works perfectly with these MW drivers?
One other question, do you know how many plants I can grow in this setup?

If there is no minimum order there is nothing speaking against the 5700°k strips for vegging.

A HLG-240 has up to 280w and is enough for a 4x 2' area. You could use 2 or 3pcs 10gal pots and a SCROG technique or up to 36pcs 1gal pots with cuttings and SOG with almost no vegging.
It's up to you how many plants you can put in in your area. SOG is the fastest technique but requires a 2nd area for mother and/or cuttings. 1-3 huge single plants needs 4-8 weeks of vegging depending on growstyle(hydro/soil) but the slightly better yield can not make up for the difference. In the time you need for 2 SCROG runs you can do three SOG's.

There are three ways to dimm HLG drivers, via resistance(B100k Potentiometer, linear), 1-10v or 10v PWM. The latter is the only solution one could call digital, the other two are analog but it really doesn't matter how you dimm.
The easiest way is a simple rotatable B100k poti+dimmer knob you can find on e3ay/am4zon, a 10pack costs ~3$. Use a multimeter to check their resistance you want the one with 108k or near to that to squeeze out every single watt of the driver.
If you really want something digital you need an aquarium/reef controller(HurricaneX, Storm, StormX but make sure you get the 1-10v extension card(100-150$ incl. 10v extension card).

Most of this reef controller only have 5w PWM dimming which is not siutable with HLG-drivers. The more expensive Bluefish controller have build in 10v PWM dimming(200$).

It's nice to have because you can mimic sun rise/sun set and start with more coolwhite in the morning and finish the day with more warmwhite but it's not so easy to set up for electro noobs.

Pacificlightconcepts has something thats zigbee compatible means it could be use with home automating systems. Controller and HUB is only 65$ and it works out of the box with HLG-drivers. It allows dimming but not to mimic sun rise and such things. But it has an integrated timer and relay to switch the light one and off.

All this dimming solutions are a lot more difficult to realize like dimming via resistance. Simply solder the blue wire to the middle prong and the white one to the left side. Below is a stereo poti one could use for two drivers, you need a single channel poti.

And tell the unbelievers they should google "sun cloark". It's a really efficient and stress-free lighting system and can grow huge plants and impressive yields.

@Randomblame did a great job of covering all the different ways to dim the drivers, but since you asked about a digital pot it sounds like you may have some electronics building experience. The "DIM+" output is actually a 100uA (IIRC) current source so if you're looking to digitally control it, all you need is a N-channel MOSFET. Connect DIM+ to the Drain, DIM- to Source and your GND, and the gate to your microcontroller (just insert the fet between Dim+/-, no resistors).

A nice thing about the Meanwell drivers is that the dim circuit is completely isolated from mains voltage so you don't have to worry about dealing with isolation on your board, and the default Arduino PWM frequency of 488Hz is in the range accepted by the driver, analogWrite() is all you need to set the brightness. Note that the polarity is inverted so analogWrite(255) is as off as the driver can go, and analogWrite(0) is full brightness (~105% usually).

Are you sure about the hlg-240 have 280W? Was looking at datasheet and rated Power is 240w.
I'm interested in doing SOG, I looked for it on some forums here in Brazil but I didnt find anything, I need search better in this forum how to do.
Is it possible to do SOG using seeds or only using clones?
I found an easy method to make clones, call Alporquia here in Brazil, follow a YouTube link
In case that I’ve to clone to make SOG, how many clones can I get at one time from a mother?
Im sure that Ill use the cheaper method to dimmer, its fckng expensive other methods, almost the amount spent on the lighting hahahhaa I pay 4 bucks for every 1 dollar here ... impossible to spend 150 ~ 200 $ on dimmer though they are extremely useful.
For the "unbelievers" I sent some photos and links from here to see with their own eyes hahaha

Yes, I have a little knowledge in electronics. I am a smartphone technician (samsung, apple, motorola ...) I work with mobile phone repair. I would love to be able to make my 100% digital grow but unfortunately the cost is very high with the Dolar costing 4x1 here :(
I will use 2 drivers, I wont make two circuits in just one driver as I asked you in another topic.
