ok if I want to breed Purple Skunk x Dutch Treat strain do I have to backcross (inbreed)

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Purple + Skunk

before I cross Purple Skunk with Dutch?

and why do I see the '' # '' after the name?

ie. Sweet Skunk #5

- Just so you know, back-crossing and in-breeding are 2 different things.

- For your first question, you can breed any variety of plant to any other variety, so long as they are both varieties of cannabis. First you would breed them together, and when you grew thier children, you would look for different phenotypes, and inbreed those brothers and sisters exhibiting similar qualities which you like and want to preserve. this hopefully would help you to homogonize your crop, but it may take sever generations of inbreeding. If you start to lose a certain desireable characteristic from one of the parent plants, then you back-cross back to the parent, and then inbreed some more for stabilization.

- The number is just part of the name. If the grower labeled/numbered all his/her sweet skunk plants, and #5 was the one pheno he/she really liked better than all the others, it might be chosen for breeding purposes. In this case, the number just becomes part of the name. Some seed companies, like greenhouse, have so many similar types plants that they have to number them (ie. Haze #1, Haze #2, and so on) just so you know exactly which one you are growing. Or it could just be a marketing ploy or a ploy to avoid any kind of copyright laws in countries where you can copyright names for marijuana plants, such as the Netherlands.

- This question shouldn't have been posted in the "advanced" section. just my opinion, but...
