Boycott "feminized" seeds

To all commercial Breeders and Seedbanks:

I have noticed a very disturbing trend, that many of you have decided to forgo the production of "Regular" seed versions of your strains, in favor of exclusive "Feminized" seed stock. While I feel "Feminized" seeds have a place in the gardens of many, many of us have no use for them.

If it is too much to ask you to produce "Regular" seed stock offerings, alongside your chemically-altered, non-organic "Feminized" seeds, then it is too much to ask me to send you my money.

Despite the fact that I may want to try your strains, I have tested many hundreds of your "Feminized" offering and I am of the opinion they are not only of inferior quality, vigor, and stability, but also the epitome of lazy breeding techniques designed to protect profits from the creation of "F2" generations.

While I understand the need for your breeding projects to remain profitable, until you again decide to produce quality, stable genetics, without the use of hermaphroditic traits, I will continue to patronize your competitors.

Have a great year.

AMS has stable feminized strains. They also carry more standard seed lots, not just a couple. I'm happy with them.

Have to agree. No issue if they are gonna sell both fem an regs, cool, cater for all, but the companies that do nothing but fems, as you say, it's little to do with "convenience" as they migh suggest, it is greed plain and simple.

I have had very bad experience with seed compaies, particularly Marc Emories seeds.they always tend to hermy about the second time thru,I believe this to be poor breeding, and selling F1,that are not stabilized

The continued breeding of fem seeds contributes to the high level of herms that come about.
They plants are carrying the genetic response of "got to reproduce".
And in those lines, the only way they have been reproduced is selfing.

Maybe not a genotype redirection, but at least a phenotype redirect.

I'm sure I'm missing out on some good strain simply because I won't even browse the female section on websites, I only wish Paridise would release some more Regs, been sold out forever. I grew some GHS's gear pre-fem era and some was good some was crap. I also grew AK and WR from Serious, and wouldn't you know it I'm still buying their gear (bubblegums waiting to germ).

Reputable Regs... Chimera, Serious, Sensi, Emerald triangle, BoG can't go wrong with those, i'm sure I left a couple good ones off, but intentionally left off one over hyped, lazy unstable breeder.

Silver is organic, and when used to produce feminized seeds, does not instigate hermaphroditic traits that were not already in the parent plant(s). Read about it, try it and then make a judgment. It is easy to make and easier to use. Don't base your thoughts on feminized seeds on one breeders negligence to use quality plants in the first place...

agreed.. the making of fem'd seeds doesn't mean that there is a bigger chance of herms if done correctly.. so long as they use a chem to force a plant to make males flowers on a female plant, then use the pollen on another plant, you should be hermie free ime..
so long as the plant didn't have any hermie traits to begin with, then you should be golden.. breeders shouldn't be breeding with hermie prone genetics to begin with imo, fem's or not or
people want what is hot, what is popular.. they don't care if it's clone only and hermie prone out the ass.. so breeders see this and then work to put out what people want.. what do they care if it hermies on some people when they're selling beans for $100 a 10 pack to thousands and thousands of people?? well, some do, it just seems to be the minority lately...

btw, i've grown over 10 different fem'ed strains from as many breeders, and never once have i had a hermie plant on me.. but i do try and stay away from some of the breeders who have problems with their gear like greenhouse and barney's farm.. but i also wouldn't buy a regular seed by either of those breeders, so it has nothing to do with fems, just who makes them and how..

and yah, sub doesn't make fem's, but that doesn't mean his reg's can't hermie, same as any breeders gear.. some strains are just known to be hermie prone.. ecsd, the real deal cut is known to hermie late in flower.. so any strain made using it is going to have a higher chance of having hermies in them..
people want what is hot..

I don't have a lot of experience with fems. So far the only good one I have gotten is Bulldog seed sour diesel.

I bought 5 fem Dutch Passion blueberry beans, and they were all herimes. I got a free Dutch Passion white widow bean from Attitude, and it was the worst plant I have ever grown, hands down. I will be staying away from Dutch Passion. I always had a lot of respect for them, but that is the first I have grown their stuff.

I will produce some of my own fem seeds, but I won't be buying them from anyone. I also will not be buying less than 10 seeds per strain.

So long as the fem seeds are produced correctly they WON'T be any more likely to herm than non feminized genetics.

It's when breeders end up with a crop pollenated by a herm and use those seeds for freebies and promotional giveaways, or even for sale, that an issue arises. It's ignorant to bash feminized seeds as a whole when a bad sample is likely the cause of your troubles.

Sounds like a good philosophy for those who have plenty of grow space and have no need for stealth.
But those who have small grow spaces and need to keep a rotation going to keep enough meds for their supply fems are better than just good. If you arent sure about fems try anything from Dinafem or Female Seeds.
