Boy Scouts of America

I am an Eagle Scout. Hitler Youth or not I loved being in the Boy Scouts. I hope the Boy Scouts don't become too liberal because it is one of the last "guy" things that are left. The Scouts gave me a sense of unity that I haven't felt since. It was a great experience.

It's all good healthy fun.

Just never seemed relevant to me. Not much need for starting fires with sticks or fishing where I come from. My mum sent me to the boxing club.

The BSA was invented in response to "The Hitler Youth"... And we still have them...
The whole scouting movement started with Sr. Robert Baden-Powell in 1907. Hitler's youth started in 1922. Have you even looked into it?
Sir Robert defended the town of Mafekin and formed patrols in order to keep the town running while defending it from 8 thousand Boers.

He taught young men to take an important role in society, work as a group and to stay prepared, specially it times of need. Your statements are usually over simplistic and rash.

I think people who have never been in the BSA are its biggest critics. It is MUCH more than starting fires and camping. It's a place where discipline and patience are taught. You get a chance to test your physical and mental endurance in the comany of a brotherhood that is there to support you.

Of course I know that. I get it now I'm an adult.

It just really does have a 'naff' image, at least it did when I was young and amongst my peers. ... other 'naff' groups as I saw it were 'the cadets'. I always thought it a strange sight to see children dressed in military fatigues and boots.

the strangest sight of all was seeing children getting on with adults and behaving.

I guess its just about what you've grown up with.

I received my Eagle Scout, and while a lot of it is just BS with some pomp and circumstance, I truly did learn some valuable life skills through the Boy Scouts. Really comes down to what troop you join and who the adults are.... I was fortunate enough to be in one where we went on high adventure camp outs and were fairly liberal. We even had openly gay scouts who weren't ridiculed or isolated.
I was in Boyscouts but I had a shitty scoutmaster, he would separate me and another kid because we knew each other from school, had the same name an would talk a lot. It's extra curricular, they should let you chill with friends.

Don't listen to teachers... "We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control." Half of them teach politically correct yet scientifically INcorrect information.

One professor I had taught that the interstate system was designed to land military air craft on, etc. etc. but it's not.. I tried to explain to her that that was a myth and she told me I didn't know and that I wasn't an expert... but I AM an expert... in THAT if nothing else. I built and engineered runways AND roads for the military. You can't land a plane on the interstate, lol.

Aww come on... don't hate on us southerners. He corrected the mistake so lay off.

I AM surprised there are no Order of the Arrow conspiracies, lol. Maybe we should start some.

Also, I think redneck or white trash is a genetic thing. It's found all over the country and in Europe. People like to say it is environment.. but it's not. I have one aunt that is about as worthless white trash as you can get. All of her siblings turned out to be great citizens. Two were businessmen, one was an engineer, and another was a school teacher. They were all raised exactly the same. All of their offspring grew up to be decent people as well... but not her kids... they are all white trash too. I'm convinced it is genetic.
I was taught that the interstate was for military use, but not planes. Just like, if we ever got invaded the military could get troops everywhere. Is that wrong too?

Yeah, I looked into it right after the guy in post number 2 corrected me. Then I corrected myself in post number 3 I think.

Those who found a sense of purpose of well being through scouts I'm glad you did, I personally found it in music, drugs and philosophy and could not STAND being in the scouts, I think there should be a disclaimer depending on your scout leader "results may vary".

I love to camp, hike, fish, hunt and if I ever bear a child I damn sure won't put them in scouts they will learn what they need to know through me, the parent because I will spend the time with them so many parents pay others to do.
