Blumat Reservoir Build Help

Hello all

I am setting up a blumat/res DTW drip system.

I've never worked with blumats before and reading all of the systems that people have created is mind boggling. A lot of people have gone very far in setting up multiple res tanks, piping in fresh water on automated cycles, massive manifold systems, I don't need any of that. I just need a simple system that can water up to 4 plants at a time.

I have a big trash can I intended to use for the res (maybe it's too large?) but I am also a little confused on how I need to setup the drip line. I know the res needs to be raised up high (how high?) but do I also need to punch a hole in the bottom of the trash can and seal a drip line there or can I just run the line through the lid like a siphon ?

Does anyone have a good video or written tutorial (with pictures) for building a reservoir system for blumats? I can't seem to find anything. I am low on resources and can't be splashing cash on materials I don't necessarily need.

Thank you for any guidance, gods know I need it.

A hole in the bottom is best. Even if your res goes dry just fill it back up and the drippers will restart. A hole in the side usually works but if the water drops below the outlet then the water might get locked and you'll need to break the air bubble at the top or open up the 8mm hose at the bottom to get water flowing again even after refilling the reservoir. Siphoning is the worst way to do it, if the water level drops all the way then you have to restart the siphon after refilling the reservoir.

You only need a few feet of head, I think my res is about 4 feet above the top of the pots.

Each carrot comes with an 8-4-8 T adapter. Just connect them together with lengths of the 8mm tubing and you have your manifold.

Also, there is no runoff to return with Blumat.
Grazi.

I wanted to do the return line because I read it works best to prevent line clogs from stopping the flow. I'll put a bleed line in the exit at the opposite end of the line..

Can you tell me what size tubing I need to use? I am going to put nutes in my res. I have 8mm tubing that came with the kit but I don't think that's enough. Also can you send me a link to what parts I need to punch a hole and seal it with the line? I have absolutely zero plumbing knowledge and I'm still not clear on what parts I need to make the manifold happen. Do I need silicone sealant?
