blulab ph pen

Hey guys have a bullish oh pen it has been good so far til the other day tried to calibrate it with new 7 an 4 solutions well the 7 is reading 10 an the 4 is reading 6 is there a way to reset it I contacted blue lab threw email no response yet. Went back to the hydro store an guy said to clean it so I did no change I'm really mad about this cuz I like this meter. Guy at the store gave me a buckshot story about he can't swap it out cu

If it dries, it dies.

I have had mine for over a year now and it calibrates fine. They will die if they are allowed to even remotely dry out. Store them with the cap full of 4.0 and always store them in the upright position. Clean them after every use by swirling it in clean tap water and then put right back in the cap.

If it does not calibrate at 7, then 4 I would not trust it, as incorrect ph will cost you far more than a new ph pen.

ya i always store in 4.0 allways upright to cleaned it and still same 7.0 is reading 10 an 4 is like 6.5 are the hydro stores supose to swap it out for me since there a dealer of blulab but went to the store i got it from yesterday and told them what was goin on guy sounded like he dident want to exchange it

My own hydro store sent mine back to BLUELAB for testing.

It was reading Er1 when trying to calibrate.

They cleaned it and sent it back and its worked fine ever since.

HOWEVER I checked with BLUELAB when I purchased mine as to what liquid they recommend for storage.

They said their booklets are printed wrongly and that they only now recommend KCI or plain tap water for storage.

Not 7 and not 4 buffers.

Their booklets used to read KCI, buffer4 or plain tap water.

Have you tried a small amount of liquid soap and a toothbrush to clean it?

Then soak for 24 hours in plain tap water.

Then try to recal?

Sorry to jack the tread but I would hate to clutter up the forum with another thread on the same subject.

This may be a stupid question but I just got mine and would like to take proper care of it. They are very adamant about not putting it in distilled water. I mix my nutrients in distilled water so is it safe to test in since it isn't plain distilled and has things added to it?

If you let it dry use a new tooth brush and dish soap, scrub the probe like you would your teeth.. then calibrate again. PH meter generally suck, you need to learn your nutrient company and the requirements of pH up. A higher pH using RO water is better then a low pH. Blue lab imo makes the best meters on the markets... do some research... dish soap and a tooth brush homie

You can use it in distilled water with nutes in it. I use RO water and mines at 0ppm. I add my nutes and test with after

This happened to me. I confirmed first that it wasn't the calib solutions, then realized the pen went bad and replaced it!

To clarify, your probe is porous, over time it will lose solution ( kci). As it is porous when you soak it in any solution it will draw that solution back into the probe through the glass. It must be soaked in the same solution as what is currently contained in the probe.
