Blue Widows growing like Truffula trees

Hey I've got two 3 week old Blue Widows in pots that I started under a 100W cfl, these are headed to guerilla plots. They started nice and compact, almost too compact I thought. I moved them outside where they were getting sun and staying nice but the tree canopy is filling in (still pretty strong mottled sun) and over 1 week they just shot up to like a foot+ high, but it's like a truffula tree now, a long spindly stem with a couple lower nodes off it and a dense ball of leaves at the top. I guess maybe they sensed diminishing sun and went all out to get up high.

Anyway, now what? They're super top heavy. To top them would mean taking off probably 60% of the leaf mass. To leave them they're definitely going to flop over, they already are bending over to make about a 45 degree angle at the soil level. I don't feel like I can bend the tops, they seem kind of brittle. Maybe give them support? Bury some of the stem when I plant them out this week? The height might not be a bad thing where they are headed, but I just don't think these plants can stand up on their own and if I do support now will that mean they never develop their own stem strength?
