If you have alternatives / suggestions please share! I need a LED that will perform well for 4-8 plants during both veg and flowering. Right now I have a CFL setup, can't afford high energy costs, so the LED seems to be the way to go. Any advise?

They claim that their 3-band lights work better then 6+ band LEDs, according to them "More bands does not mean a better light, these spectrums are the most efficient and proven wavelenghts for flowering. We sell a 6-band also, but for flowering, this is the best light we have tried." What's the truth behind this statement? I know some LED manufactures use 11 bandwidths - for example http://www.advancedledlights.com/categories/3W-LED-Grow-Lights/?gclid=CJnWkM3PuqQCFQk7gwodBGKyyg However theses LEDs cost so much more, do those extra dollars go into much better performance?

I did some research on Light House ( manufacturer of Black Star) and have to report this seller is shady as hell. They claim to use CREE LEDs in there 6 band and Tri band but the wavelength they have listed for the whites doesn't exist in the CREE line up. They also brag about how their 6 band has won a prestigious award from " Grow Boys Magazine" and this is also a phantom statement as the article doesn't exist. If I remember correctly it was exposed on 420 forum. Followed a grow with the 6 band and it was least impressive. Make of it what you will.. Buyer Beware!

i have one of their 3 band lights and i have been pleased so far. i was running a 125 watt ufo and i can tell you that the difference in perceived brightness is amazing. I have only been running it for 3 weeks but i can tell you that my buds have shown an increase in density that i had not had in previous grows with the ufo. so far that is my experience.

I used a lighthouse 90 watt led ufo last year and had great results, the model that won the grow boys competition. I just ordered the 180 watt ufo as well, the same one you posted the link for. I'll also keep everyone updated on results...I don't know if i would agree lighthouse is shady.. the build quality and light produced by my 90 watt ufo is pretty impressive and the price was more than reasonable.

Blackstar isn't the worst or best. But the wattage listed for them is usually not true as they tell you the sum of the max w of each LED instead of the total running wattage. For example: A 240 blackstar only runs on like 150-180w while very few companies will tell you the actual running wattage without being asked first.

I would suggest growledhydro Spectra LEDs as they only cost about $2.5 per actual running watt and have a lot of great safety/longevity features and an awesome 5 year warranty. There are tons of great completed journals over at 420mag.com with this companies lights, look up Irishboy and SettingSun for starters. The first and only plant of the Month (over there) to ever be grow with LED was done with a Spectra
