Bigger seeds = Less chance of it germinating? and WTF is up w Nirvana Seeds? (pics)

JIFFY PELLETS WERE MY PROBLEM..... NEVER AGAIN..... Just discovered that the peat moss in the pellets is acidic as fuck, and makes the medium 4.5ph when watering it with 6.0-6.4 water... It stunts their growth, and eventually just rot inside..... http://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide (yes, i ran into this thanks to a RIU member..).... No more Jiffy pellets for me..... I flushed out all my pellets with about a cup of warm tap water each(7.8 ph straight from the sink) till it's ph ran to about 6.0 in the Jiffy Pellet... Then I gave it one more flush with PH'd water at about 6.0 just in case.... I know for a fact that the HDF had died, so i added the other..... the Qrazy Train rooted fine, but the Blue Cheese's little taproot was still very small, so i dont know if it's dead yet... same with the Vertigo.... Hopefully this will help, but no more Jiffy Pellets for me..... They were a new way of me growing, since i found them convenient, but I'm going back to straight up soil in a cup, even though it takes up more room, or 1 inch rockwool cubes......... Sometimes it's good to stick with what worked for you before instead of trying to find new ways of doing something you already had success with...

Trap, have you ever tried Rapid Rooters? They work great for starting seeds...
All The Best!

OMG yes!
I tried it just to see, and 11 out of 12 germinated without even soaking them for 24 hours (which I am a big proponent of).

They are, IMHO, the Shit!! I too have tried several diff methods, but the Rooters beat 'em all hands down, my way...
Patience is more my nemesis...lol.
ATB!!!

I might have to try them out, cuz these Jiffy Pellets are rotting my seeds... I used to use the paper towel method, then put them into these rockwool cubes i had... thats why i had a very high germination rate...... But when i ran into these jiffy pellets at Lowes, I thought they were brilliant!... easy medium you can just soak, and it would expand in seconds, and germinate a seed, till i ran into that article on how to have high germination rates... Said in big caps.. "DO NOT USE JIFFY PELLETS", and why they were so bad.... said it was acidic... so i tested it out, and sure enough...... water drainage from the pellets were reading under 4.5 With 6.0 ph'd water....... Only the QT was growing fine.... the others were so slow, and didnt show no growth within 30 or so hours, so i flushed the crap out of those jiffy pellets as soon as i found out how acidic they were..

I now went back to my previous method... I would of stuck to it, but i didnt have any 1'' rockwool cubes at the time... all i had was 3'' ones with the big 1'' hole in the middle, but fuck it, I cut those into 8 pieces, and transplanted all the seed but the QT, since it's looking fine after the flush..... oh, and i transplanted the blue cheese also, but i'm sure it is dead...

even my Miracle Grow Moisture Control Soil is acidic as hell, so I gave that one a flush also.... But what a pain in the ass it was.... After this im going back to Hydro (rockwool and Hydroton)... Hydro is the easiest method.... I give props to soil grow with fab results........ Especially ppl who use regular soil of MG soil..... Sucks that I dont have the option to buy Canna Coco if i wanted to, Unless i buy it online, which costs a fortune for shipping.... Like double the price of the actual soil.... If anyone has a good place to buy soil online, of would be kind enough to send me some or sell me some with reasonable shipping :D

Too funny Trap! Give the rapid rooters a go before you totally give up on soil brotha!
ATB!!

i had 12 autflowers, i think 11 germinated. put them in some soil i have been storing outside, idk if it got a fungus or what. but none of the plants came up from the soil.

they were lowryder #2 x ak47 and 2 others i don't remember.

live and learn, threw that soil away and got an early start on my regular bagseed for this season.

Ouch.... Very sorry to hear that, man.... I hope those bagseeds have some good genetics, and most importantly.... I hope they sprout big and tall and bushy! :D.... Live and learn is right... I'll always check my mediums PH before relying on it with my expensive babies.

I will, man.... Promise.... what Kind of soil do you use btw?.... I love how light and fluffy MG Moisture Control soil is, but it's way too Acidic..... Why it would be so, IDK.... My seedlings look fine btw, but should be kicking up after that flush i gave them

I ran Subcools Super Soil my last run, and will probably never go any other way. I used Root's Organic as my base soil, and I'll admit it took me a while to get use to watering it. Before that I always used FFOF mixed with FFHF plus AN organic line. I used MG the first time i ever grew something, and didn't care for it. For my veggies maybe, but not the chronic....lol
