Big question: Why are outdoor flowers devalued?

I think its because illegal grows that were in the hundreds could never be looked after properly so some plants would get sick or stunted. Others would be damaged. There could and would be insects and spider webs all throughout, possible mould. The plants could be eaten by animals. There are soooo many factors not to mention that all this crap weed gets mixed together in the bags in the end so if you even had a couple good plants they are comtaminated . But see with a backyard grow for personal use it would be babied and looked after night and day. Under these conditions we can produce some good weed.

Nothing beyond experience and intuition.
Trichs that get the most full sun amber earlier, in my experience. UV is damaging to living tissue, and trichs take that hit; that's the conventional wisdom of my area.

Not to say there aren't other repair systems in play, of course, making the damage negligible, as you say.
Fair enough. That makes sense anyway.

I live in Hawaii and grow here year-round. Where I live we have a high UV index pretty much every day and the weed is plenty potent here so from just a subjective experiential standpoint I don't see UV degrading THC on living plants. There's tons of good outdoor grown here and it's all getting blasted with UV everyday for the most part. I've had good outdoor weed from Oregon and Cali also and it was potent, but I wouldn't say it was more potent than weed grown here; I wouldn't say it was less potent either necessarily. At some point it's all just potent to me, ha ha! I'd guess NorCal and Oregon get some pretty decent UV in the summer time too so maybe that's why the good stuff all seems to be on the same level as far as potency goes.

If I had my choice I'd be growing really high elevation in the tropics. The mix of light intensity (including an even higher UV index rating) and lower temperatures makes for some amazing flowers IMO.

In response to the OP, I think indoor generally looks better than outdoor and that's where a lot of the price difference comes from. For the most part, the prettiest flowers I see come from indoor grows. Something about HID lights (usually HPS) makes cannabis flowers grow and look great. And people are highly influenced by looks. Gold and diamonds are virtually useless, but they're shiny! I don't think indoor is better in terms of quality. The prettiest indoor flowers I ever smoked were the most boring too; looked great, tasted really good, smelled really nice and it was potent, but the high was what I call one dimensional (it was Girl Scout Cookies actually).

And for the indoor guys reading this, I Don't think all indoor grown weed is like that. I know there's plenty of good indoor in the world and yours is probably the bestest. That was just an example that looks aren't the end-all-be-all so no need to get your panties bunched up, ha ha!

People do indoors here because the power is the cheapest in the state...
It's always struck me as off that folks are willing to pay to produce inferior light when the sun is just outside here, but price point is King....

Lol if you put this same thread in the indoor section you would read time and again how indoor is so superior....lmao

Personally I don't think so...I prefer outdoor...... but I feel sometimes that indoor is safer.
The longer I read on all the crap people are spraying on their plants outdoors kinda scares the shit out of me. I know indoors sprays too but it has to be less...

That's the whole reason I started growing was so I know what I'm smoking on, and of course the costs of buying it and shady dealers ect. but mostly so I can control what goes into my body. I use guano seaweed wormcastings fish emulsion and for pest control it's mostly oils and soaps maybe some green cleaner and a really weak iso mix. But hey I'm just a backyard grower I know a lot of the big commercial outdoor growers dont or cant use those methods and get their profits right so they use chems.

I hear ya ...
Me personally I am a big believer in preventatives... use predatory bugs before an outbreak.
Use natural preventatives before fungus and molds break out. Biological fungicides are just amazing... using Bacteria to kill mold?! That is crazy awesome.

I don't use any oils ... tho I do believe having the best soil is ones best defense. A happy plant is a more resistant plant.

100 percent but if I see a mite and I've gotten so good at spotting them over the years from the tell tell signs they are getting blasted. A good healthy LIVING soil that is full of beneficial bacteria and microbes that feed the plant creates a very healthy plant that is resistant to a lot of problems that plants get as opposed to soil that is just fed chemical nutes in my opinion.

Don't forget not everyone is from America or in legal countries/states. You wont buy an ounce remotely close to $50 in Australia for instance.
3 to 4 ounces pays my power bill and any other associated grow costs for a 3 month period.

I wish I could get my hands on those bacteriums not available in Australia

I’m in a legal state (medical) next door to a recreational state and ounces of really good weed are going as high as $350 and more in the dispensary as well as a 7% tax! That’s why I’m growing in a closet.
I also tried an outdoor crop just because I’d hoped to get a decent amount and maybe make some hash or oils to experiment with vaping
Definitely thinking of moving to a $50/oz state for sure!

A oz of top shelf in Australia can go for 400 a oz of very average is 250 and most folks here dont know the difference between something that has been carefully and lovingly cultivated and dried properly cured and something grown quickly indoors dried and bagged up.
The response I usually get is omg this is crazy goodwhere the fuck did you get this? and I say a friend lol. I tell them the price and they say I can get a1/4 for $80
Well you cant get this for 80 bucks and I'm thinking enjoy smoking that uncured chemically laden weed lol. Followed by a phone call a few weeks later, hey can you get as my note of that weed we smoked lol.
