Has anyone ever grown bigbud on here? Want to know if it really does grow as big as they say, instead of the seed companies hyped up speech

It was all the rage 15 or more years ago. True big bud does in fact get big but it is horrible potency. You'll get tons of low grade weed.
Big bud crosses might be a better route. Blue dream is a big yielder so look for blue dream crosses and you might have better luck.
old school big bud was the shit to grow. in more ways than one. 12-18 inch rooted veged clones would just explode in flowering phase with forearm nerf football colas that smelled like super musky afghan skunk. tough and vigorous as hell. Watch out for internal mold in the thick dense colas late in flowering or outdoors. heavy ass feeder loves nuts. 10 weeks tops off the obscene yield per watt per container .......whatever metric you use other strains will have a hard time comparing to the sheer size/ nug desity/ and over the top loud stank terps all in one. that was about 24 years ago.... then the BC beasters seemed to ruin the name "big bud" forever. I don't know the story on critical mass if it is near the same pheno / genetic ???? someone will have to tell me. I personally have never duplicated the size and density explosion I witnessed out of knee high 10 day veg clones in 2 gallon bags back in the day. In a couple weeks would need to be bent and trained down in hieght and get 1.5 -2 onion per container dry and that is with old tech and with my amateur ass dumping organic soup into soil . Been searching for the real Big Bud of my memory for a long time. Fuck the 15 year old fake big bud I'm talking 1996-98 old school 25 years ago rumored to be afghan/skunk x afghan/Thai. I can in no way verify the genetic that was what I was told it was. .......and then yes sadly yes the horrible horrible fake ass (bc big bud) also know as "beasters" stole the name big bud and flavorless hay with no potency that was just a big yielder, and super dense pumped full of fertilizer covered the northeast early 00s and everyone says the new Sensi version is nowhere near the same either. The Original big bud cut my crew passed around back then was no joke. There is a reason there are some many stories about a old version that is far superior.

I've honestly never heard anybody say any big bud was good potency. New or old. But I never really looked into big bud's history. I suppose there was a decent version at some point though.

I think the original big bud was a pure pre soviet invasion afghan plant that had been found from seed by nevil and named big bud or the big bud type. To make the first seedline I think it was that clone put to nl#1, wich was the first version. Then to improve taste and potency and scent the big bud/nl#1 was crossed with skunk#1 wich is what went on to become the official big bud seedline nevil originally sold. Later versions other breeders changed or inbred nevils seed version.
Thank you so much I guess I should have done my research instead mistaking my nastalgic memories from over two decades ago for actual info lol. Do you have anything to add on the terps or potency of the original? Am I just imagining it was a strong indica hybrid that had loud stank afgahn terps that would still be desirable for sleep and pain aid in today's market? Or would it be just large yielding garbage next to sour diesel crosses that are everywhere now? Seems that critical mass popularity in Spain and other places might be a testament to the quality of the original Nevil line ? How closely related are Mr Nice critical mass now and the original line? Sorry this thread real brought back some old memories and I am super curious to get info from others who know more

Critical Mass is a re-made Big Bud, that actually works better. Different though.
I am fixing to run bigbud skunk from Ak Beanbrains to see what happens .. If it sucks I got a Stardog X Superskunk cross I will smack it with to try for large yield old school road kill for old times sake but yeah I never tried Critical Mass I just remember stupid old rumors from before the internet kinda thing....Seemed potent at the time. Had a buddy not get Sensi big bud seeds from a trip Holland and didn't care for it compared to the cut (might have been a cross for all I know) we called "Big Bud". Might be hard for young people to truly imagine how it was before everything was online but I'll be the first to say all my info was pure word of mouth.

I think you have the original pretty much spot on. The original afghan cutting the big bud seedline was based on was a sister to afghan-t which was a pure rks type which was used to make the first super skunk. I cant remember too well on this one to be certain but another sister afghan-s may have been used in the make up of black domina.Which should give you a indication in to how good the afghans being used were .
I think the critical mass is just big bud reworked, im not sure of the process used to get from big bud to critical mass. But most of the mr nice lines are semi stabilized lines wich wont give the same effect you would get from the original. Its supposed be really good though, strong smell and very good potency.
That was just a good pheno of sensis big bud from all i gather
cracked a few big bud skunksf1 open pollen from skunk#1 from AK BeanBrains. If there is a large producing old school skunk terp pheno I'm looking to run a high yield tent separate from all my weird non practical cross experiments. I will keep this thread updated. Would like to try Mr nice critical in the future to compare and contrast. looking for 1.5 onions per 2 gal bag minimal side branching and the smell of a skunks butthole.......on a totally different note here are pics a highland thai cross about 3 weeks before done. Yep, that's the story I remember. It was a huge grow of Sensi seeds big bud and that was the best pheno.
