Hey i saw this section and thought i'd put a thread together. This my first grow ever and first time using LED's and i thought i'd share some pics this is how my plant is doing using LED's. 24days into veg. i transplanted her yesterday to her bigger 3gallon pot.

What kinda led is it? Looks like my Blackstar 135W UFO.... Decent starter led, good for one small plant, 2 max.
I replaced with (2) Solarflare 200w 5w diodes and use the weaker Blackstar for vegging only (it doesn't penetrate enough to make huge nugs but it does work better than CFLs if that means anything)

i bought it off amazon its prob from china but so far its working great. when i switch it to flower i might add two 150w cfls for the sides and hopefully that will help it out.

Hi.
Don't know if you have seen this test of a 90W LED ufo vs. a 400W HPS in some of my threads.
here it is again.

Six clones 3 each.

I think it's impressive a 90W(70W actual draw) vs. a 400 watt (430W actual draw)

You should look into those cheap 30 watt led flood lights from ebay, at 40$ it's a pretty great deal and they will last as long as your other light. I have never been so surprised by quality from China! They are directional and CFLs are generally putting out light in 360 degrees which will not focus light where it needs to be, on your plants. Looking forward to the progress. In my opinion LED lighting is finally reaching a level, this year, where we have a little more control than ever before. By having access to technology developed for other purposes we are able to innovate. The strongest characteristic of greatness, innovation.
Sincerely,

@rasser nice comparison you have there. the plants look almost the same pretty much .

@iloveplants thanks for the tip i might just get those extra led lights and it would make more sense lol.

this is exciting as this is my first grow . i cant wait to see how she does now that i transplanted her into her last pot . i have a grow journal in the grow journal thread, ive been updating that every couple days.

thanks for the comments everybody . bongsmilie

Well..

This test IS pretty stupid because one could have 15 same size plants on the hps side easy. On the ufo side the number of plants is maxed out..

Sorry to be negative  . Love most of your posts by the way. Well, back to lurkin´ .

Yes but there is a little difference in the buds firmness and the weight, but the potency and taste was the same, and comparing to the low energy usage
where you basically could run 6 UFO instead of using 1 430 watt on HPS, it's very impressive in my book.

This is the distance from the light to the plants I use:

And as you can see in this thread the plants love it.

I'll agree if this was a test to see if a 90W grow light could replace a 400W HPS and by growing 3 plants only conclude that that was the case,
I think this test serves it's purpose well, two lamps same height from the floor and using totally different wattage and is getting a good comparable results.
The missing reflection also has huge impact.

Thats not negative thats observation and questioning, the wording stupid is thou a bit unlucky chosen, and for the sake of those with a thin skin, some other is to be preferable.

And Thanks.

With LEDs, get them as close as you can to add the weight!
And I wouldn't really worry about bleaching, its more strain specific than anything.
I've never had my 3w 135w UFO bleach a plant... however my 5w 200w SolarFlares are a different story.
The intensity from those have roasted a few plants, sad story & lesson learned :-/

So how close is too close? So dont worry about bleaching unless you have a solarflare? What a interesting post.... :D

What was the final weight of the HPS vs the LED for those beautiful comparison pictures taken? Like total or G/Watt for both set ups

I have my doubts about LEDs ... but this shit is the future

sorry guys, but with a good light, closer isnt better... in fact I would say almost the opposite... further the light and you get a better blend of spectrums

I believe it should be a good balance of both, you want the intensity and the good mix/coverage of spectrum. And this is probably different for each light because of different lens angle used and the different wattage leds used.

you might be missing the point of this test... I believe he wanted to demonstrate more that LED can grow as well as HPS, and he did it pretty well!
obviously he could fill out way more with the HPS, but keep in mind that he is only using 1/6th of the power. So multiply his setup by 6x and you got 6x 90W UFOs and 18 pretty good plants with a much better light coverage (light coming from 6 points of origin instead of only 1) and still using less power than the 400W HPS.
