I live out in the boonies so things are farther away here.
The ambulance took me to the local health care/hospital unit first. The idiot doctor there said I was constipated and gave me something to drink and was going to send me home once I had a dump. Told him I've never been constipated a day of my 63 years. An hour later a nurse came in and hooked me up with IV antibiotics. For constipation?
Spent the night and the next day there then they sent me a hospital an hour away with a CAT scanner but no surgeon. On the way back my chauffeur got a call on his 2-way and told to haul ass to the big hospital 2 hours the other way. Stopped at #1 to grab my personals and off to #3. Within an hour of arriving there I got my appendix out and large abscess on my colon next the appendix drained. Total cost to me 0$.
Other than the initial ambulance ride I got run around in a medically equipped 4x4. Stayed at that hospital for a few more days on those damn IVs that give you the trots constantly so got zero sleep for 5 or 6 days. A buddy lives right behind the hospital so picked me up the last night and I stayed at his place one night before the wife and a friend were coming to the city to do some shopping took me home that evening. Doc said he figured that appendix had been leaking for 5 years or so. That about when my belly troubles first started happening. The leak on to the colon is what caused the big abscess to form after some time he said. Getting the drain tube pulled out of my lower belly was the worst part of the whole experience.

I had incompetent medical care up until the problem was diagnosed then excellent work by the surgeon.
I had surgery at that hospital about 16 years back to get a knee fixed and was walking on it a day later. Got no complaints except for the imported doctors we have to deal with locally.
