BHO tube with valves - how to pack it?

I've bought new tube with 4 legs for BHO, which has two valves (bottom and top) so I can soak it longer. It's 600 x 38 mm, and it was supposed to do 150 grams. However, I pack it today with only 85 grams of dry trim. I don't know how hard should I pack it, but I guess I cannot put 150g there. So, if any of you have the same setup, how much you pack it? Do I need press it really hard, as much as possible? Or lightly? Or nothing at all?

Also, 3 x 300 ml butane is enough for 85 grams, right? Or I need more because I have long tube?

A 1 1/2" X 24" tube has an internal capacity of 42.4in3, which should hold between 148 and 174 grams.

I pack from 3.5 to 4.1 grams per cubic inch of column volume, depending on how the material is prepared and what product I'm trying to make.

All stems removed and material reduced to 10 mesh (1/10") particles will pack more densely than buds broken up by hand to 3/8" to 1/2" pieces.

For a 1 1/2" column, I use a 1" wooden dowel to pack and push firmly on it until it stops moving, but don't pound on it.

At the very least, you need enough LPG to fill your column. I use flow through rather than soak and use (3) column volumes total.

Thanks for answer @Fadedawg.
A little help please, how much is 10 mesh in millimeters? 2-3 millimeters? That's really size of grinder when you put dry flowers into vape/joint.

Uh, that's like flour, really fine material.

However, now I just packed more and with all my bodyweight/hands, so really hard. I put 115g inside. I wonder if butane will flow through this... seems really packed.

So, after blasting and couple of hours on house radiator, I am getting 11.9 grams of BHO from 115g trim. That's pretty much okay, great yield. I was only soaking 40 minutes, and used 1200 ml butane. With open blasting I was getting around 4-5g BHO, but okay, may depend on quallity of trim.

I will decarb those 11.9g BHO, 40 min at 250F, then add butter and lecithin and put into oven for additional 40 minutes. I will get 170 cookies from this, I am using same recipe for years. 3,5g BHO for 50 cookies.

My first attempt at making shatter as only just got my vacuum chamber, what ya think? 6g from a oz of trim and popcorn buds.
Looks really good. Well done.

This thread is warming my heart. I can grow decently, but shatter is my area of expertise. This is several months old. Zero tackiness, pure sand. A little darkening from oxidation, but completely stable without dewaxing. 811DB973-9DB6-4907-8832-857C6ECEDE0B.jpeg

Looking nice buddy! How long do you purge for ? I use a kombucha heat mat under my vacuum, it’s only 25w and the temperature keeps good at a about 32deg c so great for shatter

Nice. I used to use a seed heating mat with a controller and a sleeping bag wrapped around the chamber. Then I took the leap to an Across International 1.9cu ft oven. I keep it at 92 degrees and usually purge for 3 or 4 days. To get shattery shatter you need to get your material as dry as possible and avoid condensation during every step. Which is hard, and some strains just don't want to cooperate.

I still technically open blast, but I have a column attached to a dome lid and shatter platter. I take the column off when I'm done blasting, and I pump warm water through the jacketed shatter platter. Once most of the butane is evaporated I cap the ports and don't open it until I put it in the oven. I plan on going closed loop as soon after I use up this last master case.

Do you blast into Oil Slick PTFE film? If not you should buy a roll right now.

Thanks. I can't remember because I've had it for about four years now, but I got a crazy deal. I bought it off of Amazon and they mislabeled the .9cu ft as the 1.9. So I thought I was getting the bigger one at a really good price until it arrived at my house and I discovered that it was the smaller one. So I left a negative review and they emailed me immediately after. They told me that they would send the bigger size for the same price if I deleted my review. So I did. There was super wonky issues with getting it delivered where I had to shipped it twice and one of the truckers wouldn't drive up my road. But whatever, it was well worth the hassle. It also arrived in a giant wooden crate that looked like an airdrop box in a video game.
