BHO extractions -- methods and quantity

Greetings:

I am trying to get an update on the amount of oil (per one oz. of material) people are obtaining in BHO extractions. It would be helpful if you could give any information with respect to:

  • Quality of material (e.g., top grade bud, mid-grade bud, stems / leaves / popcorn)
  • Details on your extraction method
  • Amount of butane used per extraction (per one oz. of material)

It would be great to hear any other opinions on BHO extractions -- e.g., Is this economical? Have you had any serious problems?

Thanks!

Whoa -- that pic, is that what you use for the extraction? I am not familiar with that. I have been looking at the Tanisium extractor. Can you let me know how your system works, or post a pic? You seem to have a very good recovery rate with your system, and the equipment looks to be a fraction of the cost.

glass tube or stainless steal with one open end and the other with either a filter or a coffee filter (most people that i've seen either use 2 at the min.) and get some premo take like vector. fill the tube with your plant matter and run the tane threw it. scrap it up after the bubbles have stopped and then place in the vac chamber and purge it at full presser a few times and should be good after that.. correct me if I'm wrong though..

I used 1 oz of "strawberry licorice" (pretty dank) with two cans of "dodo 7x super refined" tane, purged over 100-150° heat via plate warmer by whipping over and over again, used a pyrex steamroller piece adapted to extract, and yielded 7.5 grams. 20121016_193950.jpg

I use a glass extractor with a micron screen and fill whatever size tube I'm using. I have a rubber stop on the top and depending on the color of the run usually determines how many cans I'll use. I've been experimenting with different kinds of butane from Vector 5x and Liquid 7x and I'm about to use Newport 10x. My last run I used 14gs of Green Dream and ran about 3/4s of the can and the run had been clear for a few seconds already. I let it then drip out into my pyrex that is in a hot water bath and empty out the nugs and finely grind them. I then respray with around another half can of butane. I probably have the same purge kit as everyone else, it seems like everyone gets them at extractionexperts.com, they have everything you need, its a little pricey but quality stuff and they know what they're doing and will help if you ask. I go from the hot water bath after popping all the large bubbles and scraping together, indirectly onto a hotplate around 140-150 degrees. I get it liquidy and collect it all on one razor and then transfer onto parchment. From there I start a cycle of vaccing and heating. I just recently got my vac so I'll do anywhere from ten 5 to 15 minutes at about -25(I'm hoping to achieve closer to -29). And then after holding the vacuum for about 5 to 10 minutes I air it out and put the parchment on a pyrex back onto the hot plate to get it warm again. And reapeat, thats my method I'm still working on it though.

I got a yield of 2.2 grams from the half oz and this Green Dream was pretty nice. I've heard with the larger run with obviously extreme high quality nugs is the best way to a high yield. Like the last person said, I've had friends get a quarter back from an oz of dank nugs and they used in between 3-4 cans of butane. I love bho and making it and just keep trying its a trial and error thing but its fun if you know what your doing and can get you super high. At first just try a process of hot water bath purging and go from there thats how I started, hope this helps.

I use 2" dia. x 2' long stainless tubes w/ 50 micron screen blasted onto square pyrex cake pan. I use Vector tane. I place approx. 1/4lb of 100% bud in ea. tube and pull approx. 20 grams of BHO. I usually pull 10-12 grams with trim or lower branch bud. I'm close to 20% using good bud. I purge using a mini crockpot to double boil a plate that stays right at 125 degrees for approx. 1hr.

I use one of these. 2 zips of product yields whatever. depends on what's put in it. I also use 0 butane since I reclaim, I do lose a little since I usually stop recovery short so I can pour the oil out and boil off the butane used as a transport. .

Call it what you want, thats the best yield i ever got. More average here lately has been around 4.5-5.5 grams. It was just that one batch that was massive, a fluke you might say. I use same process every time and closest ive came to that mark again was 5.8 grams. It all depends on the material goong in.. That strawberry licorice was one of the most resinous flowers ive seen in a long time.

Last run I did was 70g brick, 2 cans power 5x, and a half hour soak @ 25F and normal atmospheric pressure (750' ASL) which yielded 5.8g of shatter @ room temp. The second soak was also 2 cans, soaked 2 hours, with a yield of 3.1g. Just shy of 13% total return...

I'll throw up some pics of the next run.

What do you guys emphasize whipping the extract? For hrs sometimes. What is it doing? Scientific explanation and an oversimplified version will help clear things up.

it is about popularity simple thats it. most ppl who consume it assume that its "better" if it is dry crumbly and flaky. sure it looks nice but it falls off the dabber half the damn time.

Hey bro where did you get that extractor. I like how it reclaims you prolly save lots of money on Tane.

iv made a bunch of oil i found 7gs of killer gives you about a gram to 2 i use vortex to spay then you have to decide if u wanna vac it or wipe it
