Beware of Fox Farm

Ok so i guess its my fault, but i found out today that fox farm is shitty for hydroponics and is specialized for dirt. I found out that they put out the hydroponic grow but truly the formula is bullshit. I always have deficiencies with FOX FARM and am fed up with it. I'm always having to use ADVANCE NUTRIENTS stuff to fix problems. Fox farm is truly over priced and bullshit. Ive sent them pictures and had no response from them. I'm so sick of the product. I could see if it was a good started product for someone new to start out with but its complete bullshit. You are destined for failure. I'm not saying that i didn't have a successful product with it. I had some great smoke but yields were not that great. I have talked to many many growers who have said they started with fox farm and they switched to AN or Humboldt. I'm so pissed i didn't switch earlier. Fox Farm is good for maybe vegging but their shit is weak and incomplete for flowering. So i suggest ditching fox farm if you are in hydroponics. Just so you know and their is no confusion i have followed their chart to a T with OPTIMUM conditions with c02 enriched environment. Were talking the best clean environment with maintained c02 humidity and temps. I'M DONE, I'M DONE WITH FOX FARM. I'M SWITCHING TO ADVANCED OR HUMBOLDT TOMORROW AND IT FOX FARM HAS LEFT A SOUR TASTE IN MY MOUTH.

lol. Listen Ive had some good shit also. But the defficencies are fucken crazy. If it works for you then i dont get it? But im always having nitrogen defficencies and ive heard that their microbes enzymes dont work because they are being killed by others parts of fox farm formula.

i ditched all brands, now i feed my plants in parts, just a full formula of chemicals in parts, i don't worry about shit anymore, i add one element without the other and if theres something not right, i know it's me and not that fert lol

I was having similar problems as you with FF for my nutes so I did some searching around & found this on MarijuanPassion.com's message board. It's for the original nutrients+additives but it's a lot weaker than their schedule recommends. It's worth a shot & it might just work:

Very Simple & Very Safe & Effective Fox Farm Nute Chart for Hydro Systems:

Many people that are new to a hydroponic system have no idea on how to feed their plants, and they get a million different answers from a million different people, then they get even more confused.

The chart below is one that I made myself and its for Fox Farm nutes only.

I learned the hard way that the FF chart given with the nutes is no good for most strains and will burn, kill, most plants specially in their early stages, so I decided to experiment with varius levels of nute strengh, and found that this chart works the best for all the strains that it was tested on, I use tap water because my tap water has a low ppm.

This chart is a very safe chart to go by, no worries on over feeding the plants, wich can cause some serious problems either right away or long term, it has an initial ec that is low, then moderate, then high.

This chart is for a 4 wk vegge period and an 8 wk flowering period, if you were to use this chart, and vegge longer than 4 wk's all you need to to is continue following the chart as it goes into the flowering chart but continue to use the grow big, versus the tiger bloom, that's all, very simple, and dont use the solubles, the solubles are for flowering only.

If you flower for more than 8 wk's all that you need to do is continue following the chart from wk 12.

Has the ec is raised the ph will remain more and more stable, I recomend using distiled water, for the first 2 to 3 wk's of the plants life then tap water can be used IF the ppm is not to high, if the ppm in your tap water is high either cut back on the nute solution on this chart by 1,25ml per galon, or continue to use distiled water or RO water.

I also recomend using 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide for every 20 galons of water twice a wk ( every 4 days) I found it helps keep the roots nice and clean.

i can see your frustration!! i myself have never used the stuff but i can say for a cheap easy to use formula flora nova (grow/bloom) is great. i have never seen a deficiency with it and i love the growth it gives and the fact that it is a single part makes it a no brainer. i might try AN or humbolt but for the flora nova it has never failed me and always had great results with awesome smoke as well. just a recommendation sorry you had such a shitty experience with nutes sometimes learning curves are not fun. im going to take your word for it and not use it lol.

I took a look at your problem plant threads.

The issue you have is an immobile element. You can see this in the "splotchy" necrotic parts of those leaves.
This immobile element is causing purple stems, a general yellowing, and may be accompanied by a nitrogen excess or potassium deficiency as well.
It is really getting bad now that flowering has initiated.

Can you guess the element?

If you said:
"Alex, what is 'Phosphorus'?"

Then you watch too much Jeopardy and you would also be correct. Ringa ding ding dinga.

Not sure what bottles you have, or what volume you are using them in, but Fox Farms is notoriously short on Calcium. If you're using RO water or just have soft tap water the lack of calcium could be contributing the the problem as phosphorus binds with calcium for mobility in the plant.

Most nutrient systems are made from the same basic elemental salts. It is the ratio of one nutrient to another that is difficult to dial in for each specific phenotype of Cannabis. One system is not universal. Continue to experiment and find something that works best for you but don't write them off just yet. It could be that a simple addition of some Botanicare CNS 17 Hydro Bloom ($9) is all you need. Or maybe a little General Hydroponic Liquid Kool Bloom. Sometimes just 2ml of that extra PK product in flowering makes a big difference when trying to dial your system in against your particular strain. Keep at it. Work on understanding your ratios better.

dam great onfo crash +rep i didnt see the plants but it can very well be the water being used. soft tap or RO can cause problems as they dont have the levels of essential elements the producers of the nutes would assume you are starting with.

That is some great info, I will follow that and see if it works. I'm using fox farm as well, and it sucks that I can't use bleach in my res. But this guy above says to use hydrogen peroxide? I wonder what strength he uses. Has anybody else used hydrogen peroxide with fox farm, and had success? Thanks a lot.

"Ok so i guess its my fault" Duh of course it is.....TARDO!!!! lol

LOL this board used to be a great board with alot of knowledge about our favorite plant.

Now it clustered with newbie retarded people that cannot read or follow directions.

And to top it off, its really entertaining watching newbies give newbies bad advice.

Its a fucking weed people, use the nutes like the fucking bottle says, water them and leave them the fuck alone!!!!

I have a friend that I have been growing with, and he comes here and gets all kinds of BAD FUCKING ADVICE!!!! and I wish I could ban this site from his router.

to all the old school peeps like fdd2blk, Chiceh, Arrid, and others, I know you all know whats up, but I think some regulation needs to be done to this site like letting people ask questions... maybe!!!! but have only people that know what they are talking about reply to those questions.

No wonder there is so much shit weed out there.... I cannot believe the crap people bring over to smoke with me..... and most of them frequent this site to get their bad advice

Ahh This used to be a great site, Im sorry to see it go to shit.

I think your advice is not the best, using the on the bottle ratios could be a bad choice. Most nute brands are taylored
To non cannabis plants and thus a happy medium has to be found by starting low and working up with the same ratios.
I like how you can step up and call alot of us nuwbies very mature!

this is just "bad fucking advice" as you stated. just leave it alone lol although this will "grow" the plant and "produce" flowers its not the way to get "optimum" yield from this plant. this is why pruning and such methods are there (just like with tomatoes, roses etc etc...). now if you dont have any advice "worth a fuck" then the easiest thing to do is log off and dont log back on, if you got such shitty advice and are totally opposed to this site, why are you here now??

Man, whats with the hate? One Hates this site, the other hates foxfarm...I think your both full of shit at best. If you hate the site, see ya (everyones problem solved)..And if your too stupid to understand that a jar of FF fertilizer is not gonna spec out exactly how to grow marijuana on the back of it, then your just simply too stupid to even ponder any form of growth, be it inner or outter... Dam ignorant people suck :(

That's a bit ignorant, it's a forum that people go to when they need help or advice. Shutting them down is like not helping someone who wants to grow good healthy bud... why would you hate on that?

Shame...

Fox farm does suck its a great way to get nitrogen toxicity during flower, regular soil and pond water good ph is the key

Ditch the bottles and use a simple 1 or 2 part powdered nutrient formula like vegbloom, megacrop, or jacks, or lucas formula. It is so much easier. Dont think you'll find any advanced growers still using fox farm.
