Best way to dry

I'm getting close to my first harvest and I'd like to collect some bud drying recommendations. Do you just hang up in a dark closet? In a cardboard box? In the living room? Let me know if you don't mind. The more ideas, the better.

Congrats on the first harvest! If you are like me you can't wait to smoke some of it, but for the rest, here is what i do. I hang the plants upside down in a dark closet, and while they are hanging, I go through and remove the fan leaves and so forth to make the final clipping a lot easier (it will also save more of your trichomes for smoking.) Check it daily, you will know it is ready for clipping when the stem breaks instead of bends. Take the girls out, clip the buds as close to the main stem as possible, then enjoy. You can use all the leftovers to make super budder, or you can heat the leaves on a cookie pan in your oven (no higher than 220 deg), then let it soak in a high proof alcohol (like vodka) and voila, you have what the kids call "green dragon."

I cut off all the leaves on the plant then hang them upside down in a dark enviroment, i let them sit for 24 hours then the next day i put the carbon filter on and put the fan on low for air, be careful though u dont want your fan to close or on full power or your buds will be crispy on the outside and wet on the inside.

I put all my trim bud in a simple drybox with some news paper and a small fan blowing. I found hanging to be a pain in the azz( thats just me though) cuz I now 85% of you hang. Heres a pic of my box and some chocolate rain that had been drying in it for 10 days or so.

Somebody told me that if you hang your buds over dry white rice it speeds up the process, never tried this but I would think it's possible, I add rice to my salt shaker to keep it from getting damp

That gave me a laugh, I mean you hear all kinds of weird info from this site, but thats a good one. In my opinion anything that speeds up drying is not good. The slower the dry the better( just my 2 cents though )

You're certainly right about that. The slower it drys the better, because you need enough time for the chlorophyll in the plants to decompose. If you dry your bud too fast, yes it'll be dry, but it'll smell and taste like fresh lawn clippings or hay when you smoke it.

In the end there's more than one way to skin a cat. Just dry the bud slowly over the course of several days, in the dark. You want some light air movement, but you don't want it focused on the bud directly. I personally wouldn't risk hanging it for 24 hours without airflow. IMO that's the prime time for mold to start growing. The air flow will help prevent that at any stage of drying, but especially in the beginning.

I have a buddy who hangs inside a big cardboard box (two taped together actually) with a little door cut and a 4 " fan sorta blowing in that direction but not actually on the buds. That's the way I'm leaning now. Does anyone think cardboard will cause drying too fast or otherwise cause problems?

My simple method for drying is: use a plastic tote with a top on it. Drill holes on the inside handle indents and string some wire accross from one side to another. Drill several 3/8- 1/2" hole on one end under the outside handle area. Cut an appropriately sized hole for a computer fan....mount it to "pull" air through the box accross buds hanging on the interior wires....works great for me! I'm lucky enough to be able to dry my buds insdie in an air conditioned area where the smell isn't noticable.

A question for any 1 that wants to answer.

If i would to get a shallow cardboard box and put some newspaper on the bottom then put my buds on top and roll them over a few times a day and had a fan blowing on them, would this work ?? - this would really help me out

This would be the worst thing you could do to your freshly harvest buds! All that handling and trauma would knock trichomes off.
If you want some good tasting bud, try this: At harvest, clip the branches at the main stalk, starting at the bottom and work up.
Rough clean fans in the grow area. Cut your buds from the branches and hand trim tightly to the flower. Hang the buds in a low light environment from prestrung fishing line, whatever. Average humidity, slight air movement, around 75 degrees. 5/7 days, they should feel somewhat dry, but pliable. NOW, they NEED to be cured! I use air-tight glass jars, 30/40 ounce works good. Place buds LOOSELY, about 3/4 full and close. They must be "burped" daily for a week or two, (this is where you open the jar and let the buds "breath" for about a half hour). The cure process takes about 3 weeks to a month or more. This is a very basic overview of harvest/dry/cure, and the way that works well for me. There are many variations on dry/curing and many good threads devoted to the subject, check'em out.

You are absolutly 100% full of shit. Drying your buds flat in a cardboardbox and flipping them is perfectly fine. Ive been drying my crop like that for almost a year now. Again your only talking out of your ass from somthing you read on google or here from someone else.This pic of my chocolote rain dryed perfect in my drybox in 10 days, it has been in a jar for 4 days only and the smoke is already killer.

Drew, is that the strain you bought or the strain you grew? Why do you a pic of one bud, and yet you dont have a grow journal of any kind. In fact you have never even started a topic on this forum. And here you are again giving out extremly bad advice to nebies on this website. I wont even waste my breath on what bad advice you are giving here but instead I'm going focus on the problem. First, I dont believe you've ever grown in your life. That is clear to me. Second, you acting as if your this knowledgeable person, and actually giving advice. Smoking weed and growing it are two differnt things. People come this website everyday to learn how to grow and they get very valuable advice from picking the perfect strain for the conditions to haversting and storing the crop. This endevour take a considerable amount of time, money and effort, and having the proper information to see a grow thru to the final product is vital. One piece of bad advice can ruin a crop or substantialy hurt it. I dont know what you are doing but please stop.

O.k, how do you like my new pics? Your telling me your a grower and you cant tell those pics are freshly harvested homegrown? And to answer some of your ? I buy from sannie, take moms and clone. The last pic is not chocolate rain but something called Madonna, its 5 generation that why it looks rough. Also anything ive ever said or advice ive given is from my own expo and to help out. And you better believe im sending you pics of my room tmmrw, its 1:53am here so youll have to wait your highness.
