It's nice that your bro was trying to help you out... but i'd do it a little different haha.
First step, CUT the plant from the bottom of the stalk. Try and trim off each individual branch about a half inch from the bud closest to the stalk, leaving the last bud as a "hanger" for an easy point to put over a piece of string when turned upside down. You want to hang your string in a dark, cool room with a relatively low humidity (around 50% is great). Also make sure that your drying area is well ventilated, preferably with a fan circulating the air, but NOT blowing directly on the buds. You want to try and get a controlled dry for this process.
After hanging your buds up, you will wait from 2-3 days. You are looking to have the outside of the bud feel dryer (but in no ways "crispy") and the stem should be able to bend a couple times before it snaps. If the stem and buds seem right, it is now time to individually clip your buds off of the stem, allowing for them to be stored in a jar easier.
You will now start your "CURING". Curing means to take the moisture that still resides in the middle of your buds and rehydrate the outside, therefore allowing you to EVENLY dry your buds from now on. You will achieve a way tastier, smoother, and potentially stronger bud! What you need is a GLASS jar, a mason jar or any glass jar with an air tight rubber lid seal is preferred. And you will also need patience! Haha. The longer and slower you cure, the better. So sometimes its a smart move to purposefully dry a couple nugs quicker than the rest just to hold you over, they may not be to the full potential, but it WILL allow you to hold off on your anxiousness and cure THE REST properly haha. So now that you got your buds in your jar (or jars if you have a lot of buds), you want to slowly leech the moisture from the inside to the outside. Leave them sit in the jars in a cool dark place. Every 6 to 8 hours you want to take the jars out and open them up, allowing fresh air inside, this is what you would call "burping" the jars. Once opened, allow them to sit for at least 10 min to allow the moisture from inside the jar to mix with the dryer outside air, which in turn allows the outside of the bud to dry a little more. Gently shuffle the buds around inside the jar to make sure they all get some fresh air! Close the jars up and put back where you're keeping them. Repeat this process of checking them a couple times a day to burp fresh air into the jars. In about 4-5 days you should start seeing more of a complex smell developing and some of the smallest nugs should be good to burn! Keep the process goin as long as you like, everyone has a different view on what but consistency they like most haha. Do this process right, and you will be VERY proud of all your hard work, patience, and care for your girls!
