From what I understand soil that sits outside at lowes/menards can have bugs. Baking it will kill them. You can add mycorrhizal, order off ebay for $20

So you're adding back something in the soil web that's already present in you're mix. Just sounds counter productive to me. I grew with the pro-mix for years and the insect problem I've seen come from it was fungus gnats that were easily controlled.

a scoop of compost
a scoop of peat
and a scoop of perlite

is the basics

^ you better add some lime to that.

YES!!! he's right 180 is too hot. 160-165 should be as far as it goes, even at that just aim for at least 131 and you'll be fine.

If you're not going to do organic, i recommend pro-mix bx some perlite and vermiculite. If they don't have bx, then use hp. Just take your promix and add a handful of perlite and a handful (or more if you want to wait longer between waterings) of vermiculite to even out the texture.

The stuff is great: no need to ph your nutes, it dries out evenly, and it is very good at releasing nutes every time you water so no buildup in the rootzone of salts.

Promix, them and Home Depot sell it but you might have to order it online and pick up in store or to ur house. I never knew this until I saw the other guy saying it. Don't use miracle grow or anything

Here's at rash can full of my organic soil made with stuff mostly bought at lowes/hd. The stuff that lowes didn't have can be had at Amazon for a pretty decent price. A trash can full for about $40-50.

Here it's been cooking for about a month notice the mycelium growing

Really not just at lowes or had but I've bought FF soil at nurseries and hydro shop that were full of shit. I wouldn't recommend baking soil man. For gnats I use perlite much easier and less time consuming than baking.

Man I keep seeing all these ppl hating on MG and I can bet most of the haters have never even tried it just regurgitating shit they read on it. Try it before you knock it, it might surprise you and then you'll find out that all these suppose soils made "specifically" for mj is bullshit

I like the idea of mixing composts with cheap potting soil. Cheap and effective.

I like the idea of using perlite as mulch too. I also agree about cooking soil. The reason being, you spend a bunch of time building bacterial/fungal structure only to tear it apart and put into containers. If you want to cook you soil then put it in the final containers first then let it cook, so all you do is transplant into it, back fill, and you have a big jumpstart. I'm not saying youre doing it wrong, just different than what i do. Nice mycelia btw

I like perlite mixed with native soil and dr earths planting mix. Pick,up some seaweed and kelp extract to aid in flowering. Cheap and effective.

I actually spotted a few bales of this locally and was considering picking it up about a week ago. Can't go wrong with the price tag and since I've been using Promix HP + Synthetics for a while now it sparked my interest.
Just wondering if I can just toss some water in there and not really have to worry about em much. A set it and forget it kind of thing.

My GDP using the entirety of NC's line (Soil, VFF food, bone, blood, 3-in-1 insect, disease, and mite control), plus feed Plantation Blackstrap Molasses with water and I have a little bit of coffee grounds and dolomite lime in the soil.
