Best soil for seedlings?

what is the best soil/ soil mixture for seedlings?

would this be okay?

Seedlings need a soil that is lightweigt so the roots can grow freely. A commonly used mix consists of sphagnum peat moss, peralite, & vermiculite. Container can be numerous sizes - kinda depends on how many times you want to transplant & many other factors.

rockwoll cubes are good, or some nice MIXED up soil(perilite, moss, soil, etc). If you go soil, which is just as good as rockwoll, just get a \"party cup\" sized pot. And remember to beware of what is in your soil.

what ratios of the sphagnum peat moss, peralite, & vermiculite?

Ive seen some real nice pre-mixes you can get... But its pretty hard to go wrong when making your own mix... equal amount of each element mixed up should do great with majority soil

make your own mix of soil,it should have an organic smell to it that has a airy texture and that denses up when wet,u should use the same soil for the whole grow as well as one pot if possible,a 1-3 gal pot will do just nicely

so is that supersoil in my first post okay if it is lightened with perlite?

Well... It does have this----- \"no fertilizing is required for up to 90 days after planting.\" ------ Which wouldn\'t help unless you are vegging for 3 months. In reality you would be just fine with it, but it could be better.

ya if u want to waste ur money,u can make the same shit for a fraction of the price,go with 2/3 spangum moss with 1/3 manuer/top soil(can get that at lowes or home depot)(it also has a soil/woody texture for roots to grab onto something),keep it nice and fluffy to allow maximum root growth,plus it will dense up when wet.

Fascinating...a many years old thread replied to now four times today...started by someone in Hawaii, and recently commented upon by another Hawaiian. pakalolo808 is long gone and has forgotten his question. Ahwe.

just go to any garden or hardware store and buy seedling mix. Your temp / humidity is where the magic is made. keep it anywhere from 22-25c and get it as humid as you can, ideally anything over 80% will get them cranking along

I've used Roots Organic in the past with great results. You can plant seeds directly in it if you want, and it will take your plants a long way.

Back when I grew organically, I would do this:

1. Start seeds in Rapid Rooter plugs.
2. Transplant the plugs into Roots Organic at 10-14 days.
3. Transplant once more into Roots Organic at about 4 weeks, give or take a couple days.
4. And finally transplant into a 50% mixture of Roots Organic and Super Soil (that I mixed myself), about a week before flipping to 12/12.
