what are the best sized pots for sea of green? (sog) solo cups seem a bit small and brittle are there any oher pots that would suit. i prefer sog to be 6-8 inches apart yeilding half an ounce each plant.or perpetual harvest.

Honestly would like to know the same thing.
Pot size determines how much plants per sq ft you can have. 5 gallon could give you 1 plant per sq ft and 1 gallons could do 4-6 per sq ft.

But what is best? No idea hence the question.

Right now I'm growing 8 plants in 2 gal. pots instead of 3 in 5 gal bags, I veged for 4 weeks and flipped 6 weeks ago..
So far so good... I'm thinkin more plants will be the way to go... But don't know for sure... I usually pull 12oz off the three.. It's gonna be close... Worth a try anyway..

Yeah, I know the whole goal is to veg shorter and get same or better yield overall with SoG.
Are you doing both the 5 gal and 2 gal on the same timeframes?

5 gallon veged for 7weeks 2 gallon 4 weeks.. So 3 weeks faster, I hope!
It'll take a couple runs to dial it in so I can make a fair assessment..
Every grow is an experiment..

Wow that is awesome. Same yield for 3 weeks shorter I would call that a win.

If you could get more plants in there you could prob get it to 2 week veg which is ideal for SoG.
Might need 16 in one gallon pots or maybe just keep the same 2 gal but make it more plants in a tighter space.

Interested to see how it turns out.

This is an auto in a ball jar(24 oz i believe) and it seems to be a good size. I took the lower 4 nodes to keep the top full of attention. It was just for fun, but I'm sure I'll get atleast 1/2 oz and i only fed 1x a day and sometimes every 2 days. She's got to be close to 90 days if I'm guessing. I could easily see doing 1 per sq ft in these.20210704_060645.jpg20210704_060654.jpg

How does that jar drain?

I ran a flood and drain SOG for 10 years.

Typically 40-45 plants in a 4x4 tray under a 1k air-cooled HPS. I used 6 inch square plastic pots filled with hydroton or growrocks. I started clones in peat pellets or rapid rooters. Once they were rooted they went into the 6inch pots and vegged for about 2 weeks to establish strong roots. They went into flower about 7-8 inches tall, and finished around 24 inches usually.

Over the years I grew many different varieties with this system and found I had the highest yields with hybrids that grew nice spear shaped colas. With that type of plant I would typically get 30ish premium grams per plant. With lower yielding varieties I averaged about 20g per plant.

How much lighting did you use? Humidity and temperature? Any co2? I'm wanting to try something similar.
I had a 200 watt cfl bulb light for clones in a clone tray. A 2x4 T5 Floro light for veg over 2x4 flood tray. And a 1k hps in a great white air cooled hood over my 4x4 flower tray.

Unfortunately I never got to try CO2, and my climate control was never ideal. I was very limited on running any more power then I was. So I did my best. Some parts of the year were easier then others. The room never got hotter then 83 in the summer but keeping it warm enough in the very cold winters was tough.

I can’t speak for anybody else but for me if I were to scrog I’d go 6“x6” square pots for scrog. 4 per square foot, pure coco dtw, flip as soon as the Clones are rooted, and train for only one main cola…..but when I find a strain that has that magical donkey dick cola and 28+thc% and crazy terp prophile I’ll keep it on the back burner……now I just fill 4x4 and 5x5 areas with one plant, I can honest to got fill a 10x10 tent to the gills with 4 plants vegged for 8-9 weeks from seed. So who knows maby I’ll just stick to that

Sounds like my type of grow. I'm gonna try 9 plants per sqft. Ill keep you posted on how things go.

wow. I thought the size of the pot depended on the size the plant could grow to which I assumed bigger was better. I have always used 5g outside but i have some 3g pots I was gonna toss. you now have me rethinking that since I just bought a 5x5 tent. If I can fit more plants then thats great as long as Im not sacrificing large amounts of final product.
Question for you: Lets say worst case scenario someone comes knocking one day asking questions and you cant grow in your state. Will you get in more trouble for having a bunch of small plants vs 3-4 larger ones? Just trying to weigh risk to reward.

Iv pulled an honest 21.5 zips from a 5 gal fabric pot of coco perlight mix 70/30 this go around I’m in 12x12” (5.7gal) hard pots in pure coco, it’s more like 5 gal even becuase I have the coco a few inches below the top of the pots….goal is 2lbs…. In the past Iv pulled as mush as 10oz of solid nug in 2.7 gal fabric pots pure coco dtw… then where also a few inches below the tops so more like 2.2-2.5 gal worth of coco…… if your in pure coco and u go light ppms and feed 2-5 times a day you will shock your self every time u open the tent …. Mine get so too heavy I gota tie them down or the fan will blow them over….. u only get that with properly rooted out coco….. Iv seen a buddy pull half a zip per clone in 6”x6” square hard pots when he did his scrog…no co2
