Should I just use the back of my hand method? or go by the looks of my plants and adjust accordingly???? I am using 250 hps for 2 plants in 3 gallon pots. Temp is between 78 F and 80 F during light hours. humidity is between 40 and 45 percent. Right now, I have my light 20'' away from my plants. They are on day 9. Thanks!!!!!

At that distance u have the plant will stretch too much causing long branches with nothing, u will cut down ur bud production... U want them as close as u can without causing heat stress or burns, just play around with it & u will find ur happy medium..

indeed hand method helps to ensure not burning the babys but also google is your best friend if you use the right key words.

Beginner, do you know how many peeps told me, what YOU are doing with YOUR lights would be wrong right now? They tell me 24 " will stretch them. but You can tell me otherwise, it dont make any damn sense.

I post pictures, and tell them everything bout my grow op. They know my plants are seedlings, and are around the pre veg stage. But I have READ, and A lot of PEEPS on here have said, "get that thing as close as you can to the light" It need s to be close to the light they say. I get it. Its like im some peeps dont even read what forum I am posting my threads on, to help give me advice, or they are just not paying any damn attention at all.

Hey bawse, ur going to run into all kinds of wanna b experts on here or wherever & everyone has what works for them, but when I told u urs was too far away thats my belief & found out the hard way because all mine stretched like I told u. But if u watch ur ladies very carefully u can c what they need or dont need, because ultimatly ur the one doing ur growing, not anyone else... I wish u good luck, u will find what works for u, but just watch them carefully

For babys, keep em a a couple feet away, once they get a bit bigger (your judgement comes into play here) move the light down until it's a foot or so away from them. If they start to stretch, move em closer, if they start looking heat stressed, they need more personal space from the light. Listen to your plants, they'll let you know what they need to be happy. And a happy plant produces happy buds. Best of luck! :)

welcome to rollitup

what i do to figure out the right distance in EVERY stage of growth is this:

-start your lights and let them on for couple of hours

-hang a temp meter, right on top of your seedlings (or next to them of you use a closed propagation box) and let it stand there for another couple hours.

-then check the maximum temperature

Now, adjust your lamps on a height above the plants where temperature (next to the higher tops of the plant) is lower than 25-26 Celcius
->For seedlings i would suggest to put the lamp even higher (to achieve a temp of 22-23).
->after 3rd-4th week you can go as close as you want, as soon as you maintain a temperature of 25 C on the tops of the plant (otherwise they start burning on top)

Many people use a 'cool tube', which helps into ventilating the heat around the lamp and by that way, let you adjust your lamp even 5cm next to the plants without burning them!

TO avoid overfeeding this wonderful forum with the same repeated information (like those i just gave you), next time,
BEFORE YOU START A NEW THREAD, YOU SHOULD SPEND AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR SEARCHING INTO THE FORUM, because 99% OF THE STUFF PEOPLE ASK, HAVE ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED BEFORE BY HUNDREDS OF OTHER GROWERS IN OLD THREADS.
