Best LED's for 2013

It's very likely that you have already made a choice, but I didn't see anyone who mentioned the new Lumigrow Pro 650 models, which DRAW 650 from the wall, have an adjustable spectrum and a 5 year warranty from a company that's based out of Cali., and been around for a while. If I were in your shoes making an investment like that, I'd for sure talk with higher ups in the companies. Get a feel for them. I've talked to a couple owners of LED companies who totally turned me off to their product (shitty attitude) and some that have turned me on to their product by teaching me more about LED lighting. Safe to say I would stay away from HGL and touch base with california light works and lumigrow.

That Lumigrow Pro650 or 325 is very tempting. I haven't purchased any lighting yet, and I'm looking forward to seeing some results. I know a couple people on RIU have one.

Your probably correct(I wouldn't doubt you ever:P)...so we are looking at $1300 for a 220-240watt panel, FUCK!!! makes sense as they charge 600 for the 100w outdated version........
Anybody used the 100W version? Seems like you could pull two small plants pretty well off that.

I have included a Q and A sheet that answers most of your questions. Below are answers to your questions not covered by the sheet. The Q and A sheet is enclosed as an attachment.


Our GL-700 series uses eight, 80W arrays per growlight. Each 80W array consumes on average between 80W and 85W each. There is always a variation of power consumption due to the fact that not all LED dies have the exact same electrical characteristics even from the same batch. The total nominal power consumption is between 660W to 700W. Part of this is the power consumption by the LED arrays and the rest is due to the power supplies, drivers and cooling system. Again, there is a variation in power consumption due to the fact that different operating conditions will affect how hard the components will have to operate to maintain the various internal current and voltage levels.


I would like to make an additional comment about our reflector design and how it relates to umole measurements. I have seen a number of companies that have seemingly large umole readings for a certain Wattage of light, however, a large umole reading does not tell you the full story. It is far more informative to state anaverage umole value over the entire intended grow area, and furthermore, how uniform the illumination is over the intended grow area. The fact of the matter is that for a variety of growlights operating at a given power level, the total amount of emitted light will be roughly the same. How this light is distributed over a given grow area can vary greatly. The most desirable distribution of light is a uniform distribution that ensures that the plants near the edges and corners of the grow area are receiving just as much light as plants located directly in the center of the grow area. Our reflector design accomplishes this far better than any other growlight out on the market, however because of this, our umole readings reflect an average value that is less than values stated by other companies. If other companies were to state their measured values as average values, it would be similar to ours, and yet, our light would perform better due to the uniformity of illumination over the entire intended grow area.


We recommend our GL-700 light for grow areas measuring 4'X5'. We have had growers report success with both larger and smaller grow areas. Our measured average umole readings for various grow areas are as follows.


3'X4' grow area average umole value 410 umole
4'X5' grow area average umole value 246 umole
5'X6' grow area average umole value 164 umole

I have had long chats and a few threads with these guys. Not a bad product...the output is just no top level compared to what is out there, specially for the wattage.

He says it tops out with 1290umols @ 24", which is really good. But for a peak number could be higher. I like the distribution aspect for truer coverage, but output/watt is just little low for me.

I am about to make a major purchase of LED lights.. After much research I am leaning towards the HydroGrow 360 watt panels that I am told give a 4'x4' coverage at 24" above the canopy.. I am looking covering a 12'x12' area with 9 lights.. It is almost a $20,000.00 investment in lighting and with so many LED companies out there I am wondering if anyone has any experience with HydroGrow lights.. I have been experimenting with 2 similar ProSource LED's but have since found out they are from China.. Don't want to hear anything about my choice in lighting, just looking for the best product to invest with..... Thanks

Procyon light is in and I must say I'm a fan...to an extent. I'll explain, Pros: the light is powerful, bright and uses high quality leds. It also seems to be built quite well. It will cover a decent footprint from 36" off the canopy ( 4x4 ft to an extent will explain in cons). The best is the sundial program used to set up spectrum and times for up to two months. Cons: The fan from the light does put off a bit of heat compared to other leds in its wattage range. Back to the footprint of the light, as it does cover a large area for its wattage draw (366 pic below) it does not penetrate too deeply as the leds have there original lens (150 degree) and this forces one to bring the light within 12" to penetrate well but shrinks the valuable footprint to 2x2 just my opinion I guess.
All in all my foliage is very healthy, and the plants responded well to the light within an hour (after being under a quantum t5 badboy) And hey this light is still in beta form so they will be working on a new lens cover to help with penetration with would in my opinion make this light very worth it. I mean if it could cover 4x4ft with 350-400 watts efficiently AND penetrate deep into the canopy that would be awesome. Here are some pics below, last is the last hour I set to try and resemble sunset.

That light looks dope cococola you thought about putting it on a mover to expand its footprint? How easy was the setup of the light timing? Suppose that will be for more when that new lens you speak of is made an update but just a thought. Just bought an Inda-gro to give a try since I have been all LED till now. If I like what I see I am going to get another, if not it is back to LED because HID is not the light system for me.
Those Novas could be something I might look into, patiently waiting for the release of these new Area 51's since I am not privileged enough to get early specs lol. You say you already have one on order dawg?

Funny you should say that natro, I honestly didn't even think of a light mover lol. I suppose I could, as far as the sundial program I found it pretty easy. Not too sure about extra cost for the new lens tho. Also since I'm an led whore I ordered a custom apollo 12 and this time I'm going with white leds to try. Im going with a 10000k 3000k and 660nm ratio of 5:5:2 per 12 led module.
