Best Cannabis Cups and Events

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to make this post, so I offer apologies in advance if it causes any trouble. But I'm interested in going to a cannabis cup and I'd like to hear some opinions. I have been interested in the cannabis cups since I was a kid seeing the magazines in the bookstore (90's). I wanted to go to Amsterdam and go to the cup there...i have made it to Amsterdam (couldn't smoke bc I was in the army and snuck over there but I did hit the smart shop and ate a bunch of shrooms haha), but not to a cup event. Interested in the Emerald Cup too. Now during that span of time I've seen more events being held and I have the opportunity to ask from you, what are you're first-hand experiences at cannabis events? Which one is the best? Which one was bunk? I'm trying to go and smoke the very best and have a good time. Thanks for any replies.

Skip the Emerald Cup. It's just a capitalist trade show. Spend your money as you like, though.
Definitely not trying to waste my money. And I don't want to go to a "capitalist trade show" either. So Emerald Cup is off the list. I want to find and try the best bud, not necessarily the most popular, hyped up and marketed ones. I call those the "ornamental strains" and I'm not a fan. Same with the people there. I want to avoid that crowd. I'm keeping my eyes and ears (and heart and mind) open and still want to go to a cool one! Thanks for your reply @topcat

We have a few local cups out here like NYGC[New York Growers Cup] was held early this month. I wouldn't bother with commercial crap events like Hightimes and the rest.

That's a good idea and I am willing to travel as long as I feel like it'll be worth it. Not just a show selling lights and nutes, but sampling some different buds and meeting breeders and that kind of thing

Then you enjoy events like NYGC and Piffcon[which is more about directed towards Haze] these events are local breeders/growers and not commercial.

Those sound perfect thanks for the recommendations! I'm gonna look up some info about them and if you can help direct me I'd be really grateful! As fate would have it, I've grown a handful of *piff plants and just popped a couple more 'Holy Communion' seeds and planted one this morning. @SB85 Appreciate you!

Well, you could probably buy some good product. The issue I have is, you have to pay $55 (last time I checked) just to get in and have the privilege to spend more. It does have live music and talks by people I've never heard of, but that's not what I'd go for.

Yeah me neither on needing music and speakers. I guess 55 bucks for the cover wouldn't be too bad, then I guess buy a "judge pass" for probably 250 to get a bunch of samples to vote on? I could do that too I think. I'm just always wanting to find something new (to me) to add to my collection, just like most of us here, I guess. Going off of someone else's word sometimes doesn't do it. It's a lot faster to just try the different ones and get the seeds or clone than it is hunting through seeds trying to find a plant that lives up to the description. Plus I figured at an event the different growers and breeders would be passing out free samples besides what was in the cup entries. That all would be fun to me, andale it worth it, especially if I really did find some new kinds that I really like.

Right. A sampler package would be good. I do like the idea of meeting seed makers, too. I'm a seed guy and am always hunting for a keeper, but those are a crapshoot too, just by reading the limited description, if any. Plus, the big crowd. I didn't mind crowds when I was younger, but don't tolerate them well now.

I recommend:

1. getting some shitty tattoos, preferably on your neck, arms and knuckles.

2. You’ll need baggy clothes, perhaps a graffix T with graffiti style writing, defintly a flat brim cap (turned sideways) and a gold or platinum chain

3. work on the way you talk, study Berner videos for this

4. Earn some style points with the above and you’re sure to get included in the best of the best shows

Good points. We need a low key deal. I'm not that good in big crowds either.
