Best and Worst Strains of 2013

Would you expect garbage from Dutch Passion?
Don't know a thing about them; but I wasn't calling his entire lineup garbage. Though it is heavy in budget lines, and features GHS and Barneys. THC Bomb [5] didn't wow me. It's not a surprise that his Karamelo was one of the winners...there's a long thread of happy Delicious Se-eds users on this site.

You never know for sure what you'll get when you pop a bean; but if you spend an hour browsing reviews, or been a resident on a forum such as this one for any length of time, you've read more than enough info to avoid certain companies due to their legions of dissatisfied users.

Amos, right lol yeah I learned a lot from them seed slingers. I now may use a could out of the norm breeders but right now I'm looking at a pyramid seeds tutenkhamen and plata labs lemon alien. Looking for a orange tasting strain . If you could share some wisdom it would be appreciated. Thanks man.
Wow....I am wise Amos...

Hey man, the wisest thing I can tell you is to research before you buy. Get in on a good promo and get an assortment of well reviewed [ or at least, not poorly reviewed ] freebies. The past Christmas promo at the 'tude was excellent, and the b'day promo looks decent w/ the normal B+ strains represented.

Avoid Barney's and GHS. Either could have a magic bean...you never know....but odds are long against it. Go w/ good odds. Not everyone loves GGG, TGA, Bodhi, RD, RP, DNA, but an awful lot of people do. I figure there's good reason.

Separate the reviews of strains. Is it one guy championing a strain / company with only a couple of amens, or is there a thread with hundreds of posts by happy and enthused users? That one guy could be right - but odds would favor the dozens of enthusiasts, doncha think?

Also....there are posters on RIU that clearly know what they're talking about, and can be found often on threads of the more positively reviewed strains. There are about a dozen people on RIU who's opinions I've grown to respect. [ but if my big Bodhi investment turns out similar to my failed venture into herijuana [and her kin] I'll be pi$$ed ]

I've seen good reviews about Blood Orange.
The mother of the cross is the most orange/citrus tasting bud I've ever smoked.

Agent Orange was a close 2nd (the pheno. I tried), but it's not available anymore + Blood Orange wont be around long.

I've got 1 pk. of Satsuma waiting it's turn!

Hehe!, I see you had a similar heri experience. I actually stumbled upon a rarer pheno w/Sannie beans, produces more and does not have the overwhelming coffee/chickory flavor...but still lacked potency. I ran it twice(thinking perhaps I screwed up the first grow)before switching to bubba kush/Ms U genetics from Dynasty...which I happen to be smoking at the moment.

not bashing but how do you know its a keeper if its still drying? most plants that i think look best in flower usually aren't what i expected once smoked. usually the low yielding, ugly duckling gets the nod.
so true but weird most ppl judge bud by spear shaped and sugar looks. the grower should always sample and cure for months but lol

Lol no amount of burping and cureing will make shit weed good. If it doesnt taste good a week and a half from chop it wont ever taste good. Not saying cureing doesnt improve things just wont turn a bad hot taste to a good one imo

Two strains I will definitely be growing again ( and already am btw) are Purple Paralysis by COTC and Atomic Bomb by bomb seeds.... I'm not saying there aren't better out there, as there most certainly are. These were just my personal winners in the last 12 months. Purple Paralysis, although not living up to the massive yields they claimed was A++++ smoke with a devastating taste and high... Atomic Bomb practically grew itself with amazing yields and among the the best looking buds I've grown... very complex high and a taste I have yet to determine... fuel, pine and something else... citrus maybe?...lol~ VERY strong!!!
I had a few letdowns but would rather not mention them as the two I have in mind I only have grown one of each and it wouldn't be fair to condemn them on just one seed... but I will say they both were already mentioned here...

I only have 2 under my belt so I can't say for sure there aren't some yielders in the bunch... but they barely doubled in size after flowering so maybe start a few indoors to get a headstart... you will NOT be disappointed though... great smoke!!!!

I should also mention I have two in veg right now... one a very short and squat, beautiful bushy indica dom... the second a little more stretchy... growing vigorously but looking like a haircut may be in her future;)

Every bean is a mystery, but there are quite a few companies I wouldn't even bother with (Barneys, GHS, Bomb, Dutch passion, many of the Spanish companies). I've been taken on my first go round buying beans. It feels quite shitty to waste the time, space and money on something that turns out to be mediocre at best, or simply shit at worst. Could there be good offerings? Sure, but I don't want to waste those resources trying to find something good.

I ain't going to lie, I am a huge bodhi fan. Never had a hermi problem with any of his gear, Even if a plant wasn't a favorite, it still stands on its own as a quality plant. Most aren't the biggest of yielders, but I'm about quality above quantity, although my Blueberry Hill is a beast of a plant. I've got 8 different Bodhi strains running now in various stages with 4 of them new to me in veg.

Sadly some amazing bag beans from a Dr. Green thumb all turned out to be he she and had to get the chop. Can't blame his genetics necessarily, as it easily could have been a donor from some other plant instead of selfed. simply happy I caught them in time, but it was bizarre having bananas popping out of the female flowers. Seen bananas before near nodes, but never intermixed in the flowers like that.

I do think that research is important, look for breeders that have a solid stable, long standing in the community, and a "fan base" so to speak. I have all these singles and just can't bring myself to bother with most of them. Why waste time on something that may be mediocre when I can run something with a good reputation?

Beans I'd run with a close eye on, Rp/DNA, G 13, Th Seeds (damn hog hermied on me back in the day), WOS, Delicious (owned by WOS).

Companies I wish to buy from in the near future besides Bodhi, Ace, Cannabiogen, Sensi, Mr. Nice, Serious and possibly Gage although I'm tired of typical OG crosses which it seems he uses as a male on the regular

Sure I'm missing some good companies, but just my thoughts on the topic. If price is a concern, remember you get what you pay for and how hard is it to save a few bucks? Besides you can make it on the back end when you have a harvest of great bud.

Best- TGA Qleaner (Sativa) View attachment 2977375 BlackBerry Kush (Clone only-Indica) View attachment 2977376

Worst- Friends homebrew cross of a trainwreck. I swear that thing never grew a normal bud in its lifetime.

Other pics are found in my journal. Im really excited to try out TGA's Plushberry if its anything like their Qleaner or Querkle.
Hurry up on the Plushberry, TGA is removing Ace of Space and PB(their 2 Black Cherry Soda crosses) from their line up so grow it while you can.

Great pics btw

Best - TCC Boss Hogg, TGA Mickey Kush

Worst - G13labs Gigabud(was still dank, just my worst)

Purple paralysis ROCKS!! Their custard cream is good too! Tried a pretty lights but it didn't sprout. Redoing both pp and cc a second time. The gohgi og I grew was disappointing but I see lotsa good reviews for it. Chocolate heaven was pretty good .

The taste might not improve much, but trying to judge how high a strain gets you after a week and a half in the jar is a total newb move. Some strains need a long cure before they're any good, C99 is a good example. I thought it was really weak after a two week cure, but three months later she knocked my socks off. The Durban I grew about ten years ago improved quite a bit with age as well. I've found the psychoactive properties in sativas usually won't show their true magic without a good long cure.
