Beneficial Insects

Hi does anyone use beneficial insects in the garden to fight pests? If so what do you use and do you also use chemicals or just the insects? How is it working for you.

I see the problem with beneficial insects being that you have to have some "bad bugs" in the first place for them to feed off or they would die so you kind of need to have a problem to start with for them to be of use. Or am I missing something?

No pests at the moment. Just curious as to the effectiveness of beneficial insects vs. simply using chemicals to kill bugs.
