Being the Market Leader in Canadian Cannabis

I wonder if there's any value at all in this.
http://www.cantechletter.com/2015/08/tweed-marijuana-set-to-become-dominant-player-on-bedrocan-acquisition-says-m-partners/

Obviously with this acquisition Tweed becomes the largest producer with the largest variety and the largest distribution network as well as the infrastructure for some pretty big international stuff.

My question though is what the hell they're going to do with 6.5 million grams of cannabis per year.

1 user ~= 4 grams / day (high side of the average)
4 * 30 = 120 grams a month
12 * 120 = 1,440 grams per year. (at $9 a gram that's $12,960)

That's about 4513 patients they can supply. Word on the street is that they have closer to 600 active patients.
Most patients are not using their LP as 100% of their supply, so we could probably assume much closer to 2g/day and that would mean they have supply for over 9,000 patients.

From a business perspective I'm not seeing it. They were already too big and required legalization or international borders to open but now they need both those things and they need them ASAP. I don't see them making this deal with Bedrocan unless they know something - they're dumb at some things, but they're very well connected.

The way I see it, we're either going to see:
  1. The MMAR and any other "grey areas" disappear. First indications of this are that the CCs that ship by mail have all been warned or fined based on the fact that they are mailing product. I highly doubt this happens, but it's always there as a crazy outcome.
  2. Legality or decriminalization - this certainly won't come from Health Canada, but the government at some point could roll something out that would effective 10x the customer base overnight.
  3. Export of extracts / medical studies - now that they can legally create and distribute extracts we need to see where this goes. I imagine we may start to see much more research and international distribution eating into their stock pile.

I can't wrap my head around this any other way.. the numbers just don't add up.
That said, if they do sell it all at their price point they should be profiting about $39 million a year based on a price of $3 a gram to produce.

Thanks in advance for the "fuck the LPs" and any actual insight that might slip by the hatred.

With the present landscape is doesnt make sense but anybody invested in this industry is looking a few years down the road.

you can hope the mmpr system will fail but the truth is that it will not fail, and the big players will be extremely profitable.
The wheels are in motion for this to happen. Its just a matter of time untill cannabis is re-schedualed in the US and then they are open for import. along with many other countries. . Dispensary's in canada will either be having to purchase from lp's or they will be shut down and replaced by controlled storefronts like in ontario the LCBO for alcohol... The pharmacys are right on track to distribute extracts and word is tweed has been selected by shoppers drug mart as the supplier..... the list goes on of industry changes that will make there 6500kg of production inadequate... there will be more consolidation of licenses... and more applicants will be issued licenses as time goes on... it may take a couple years, but shit, 6 months ago we thought it would be a couple years before extracts were allowed and look how fast that got done. it could be tomorrow that something major happens like cannabis is issued a psuedo DIN and BAM its off to the races....

The thing you can't seem to get is the fact that we DON'T need them. Nobody does. People can grow their own easily.
You think their gonna stop and be forced into the LP system....I don't think so. But you keep on hoping kid.
You think because LP's exist people won't grow their own.
The LP's will only survive through legalization.
You can't arrest people into the mmpr ya know. You think forcing them into it will work.....nope.

Do you have anything else at all to substantiate this?
I'm only asking because I know another LP that's banking on their relationship with Shoppers to make that move...

I know other LP's that are banking on their relationship with shoppers aswell... they all are, and they will all tell you that THEY are being selected...shoppers has been doing more inspections on facilities than Health Canada lol.... I just heard through the grapevine that tweed was selected but by no means can i substantiate that... From what i know, I forsee multiple brands being offered by shoppers. so while tweed may have been selected, there are other lp's who can get in alongside... Im sure you know if your involved in this industry, what you hear from some of these people is 99% bs...

seeing as the MMPR is about medical marijuana, it doesn't really apply to recreational now does it? I guess we will see how that evolves, the MMPR may be here to stay but so are the 100,000 growers.. I see the dispensaries as the true heirs of the rec market and the lp's unable to do much about it..

So after which ever LP is selected and potentially partnered(Believe it when I see it. I'm sure we've all heard the rumor that Tobacco company "X" has packaging waiting in the wings for legalization at SOME point over the years and nothing has come of it)with Shopper's that means SD needs their cut too, soooooooooo if anything it's another price hike on medication which is ALREADY over priced and under delivering in quality. Seniors everywhere would lose their collective shit over the Devil's lettuce being supplied by that sweet young man who works in the pharmacy that reminds them of their grandson.

Seems to make sense........................................

it can't have a din...it's a plant...
but so are poppies. when they extract what they call "medicine" and put in pill or liquid form...it gets a DIN.
my hope is that will pull their heads out of their asses and look at what a lot of people are saying instead of wasting OUR $$ on fighting us.
i really don't care about the DIN...I want to be able to produce my meds again...or have a designated grower. that would make me happy! i could afford things again!!!!!
