beginners... 1st time grow

hey guys , iv just put 5/6 seedlings about 3 to 4 inch tall under 24 hr light from a 250 watt light .
would really appreciate if any body has any tips to help me on this stage of veg as i dont want to burn them etc,
this is my first grow so any help would be much appreciated

thanks guys and happy cultivating :bigjoint:

give them a lot of light. 18/6 hours is great! make sure you water your plants when your first knuckle is dry in the soil! give them nutrients, fish emulsion works good because that is the one nutrient that will never be bad for your plant. good luck dude!

hi this is my first grow too and ive been doing tonnes of research.

i constantly try to aim to have optimal conditions for my seeds.

i mainly make sure the temp is between 25-30 degs celcius and that my plants are getting just about the right amount of water.

One thing i always check before anything is the condition of the leaves on my plants, i check to see if theres any nutrient burns, or color changes or if they are dipping due to too much water.

i keep my plants on a 24/0 cycle so that the temperature is constantly how i want it. i used to have 18/6 cycle but during the night one of my small plants died due to the cold

Hey, so im in the middle of my first grow as well. im about 5 weeks into flower on a set and a second batch in veg. this started off as a science experiment of sort for me, and thru my trials, ive killed a good 20 or so) i have fond that light of that watt should be kept about 4in. from the top of the plant, move up as needed. once its time to flower they can be about 2in off the top. good luck man.

Ok, first of all, what kind of light are you using? For optimal results use a Metal Halide light for veg. If you're using cfls, use bulbs in the 6500k color spectrum. Since your seedlings are only 3 or 4 inches high, they are pretty young yet so you do NOT need to keep the light as close as possible (unless you're using cfls). Keep the light up higher (maybe 20 inches or so) for the first 4 or 5 days until the seedlings get used to the light. THEN you can drop the light closer.

When/If you decide to give them nutes, always start with 1/2 or even 1/4 of the dose recommended on the bottle. Don't over water your plants! Use your finger to check the moisture of the soil about an inch deep. If its dry, its time to water them. Also keep a close eye on your pH. Soil grows do well with a pH of 6.5-6.9.

Keep an oscillating fan on them. This will help with stem strength as well as air circulation for the plants.

Be patient! :blsmoke:

hi , thanks for the help ......
so ne way im using 250 hps and my lights ar about 2 ft away thats ok right now ye ? as for nutes iv only given them a 1/2 strength formula of take root from dutchpro as soon as i saw the baby leaves first sprout , since then just water.

cheers ne way n keep blazin :bigjoint:

I have done test grows on a few plant's and to be honest i think that the plant's do not grow any faster under 24 hours of light then if they was under 18/6.I think that by letting a plant rest from the heat of a indoor grow room can have far more benefits than haveing them under 24 hours of light.

cheers dude n happy cultivatin :weed:

in my personal opinion. You should definitely let your plants sleep. They ARE alive you know ;-). And sleep deprivation IS torture.

The above advise is solid, plants need rest here is a quote from an article I posted a few days ago explaining plant respiration (Max Yield link in sig)

Respiration – this mostly occurs in the “dark” phase. Plants “burn” the carbohydrates they create during light reactions in the presence of oxygen to send the energy through the plant’s internal “wiring,” which is a network of proteins/amino acids to supply a variety of functions with the free energy they require. Carbon dioxide is a by-product of this process, making it a “mirror” reaction to the photosynthetic reaction, as above.

Keep em Green
