Beginner Questions

Hi guys!

My husband and I would like to start growing one indoor plant for personal and medical use, so we're looking for some advice on how to get started.

We'd like to use our small walk-in pantry as a grow room. Would it be possible to use this space without heavy modifications? With only one plant, would a small fan be enough air flow in a sealed closest?

We used to grow shrooms so we still have a few lights (6500k bulbs), some coco bricks and verm. In the start of our research, we saw that some guides use these materials. Are these materials smart to begin with since we've already worked with them? We're just looking for some guidence for the most cost effective and robust grow that a single plant can provide!

Coco can be a tuff beginning medium
Something like Promix HP and Mega Crop is a very easy system

As for lights, a dedicated light cable of veg and flower is best. 6500k is fine for veg but not flowering

And yes, that space should be fine as long as smell isn't an issue

Okay thanks for the tips! We're planning on building a DIY carbon filter to hopefully control the smell. Would you be able to recommend lights for such a small area?

Make a good soil and get some auto seeds. It sounds like you have some florecent bulbs? If you want to get a bunch of florecent bulbs that could work to stay under 200$. Leave them on 24h a day.

Alright, nice suggestion. I'll do some research into auto seeds. Yeah, we have some cfl 6500k bulbs, do you think just using more would actually suffice?

Not with good success starting out

If your serious, get a good light, the TS1000 or TL1000 would be perfect

Then decide on a good , easy, medium. And get real Cannabis nutrients

You have to make sure to buy the proper type of bulb. Many have switched to LED light bulbs for small closet grows, take the plastic ‘bulb’ part off to reveal more brightness. Look for the most powerful watts possible. Around 12-15w is high. You need a thing to sqrew the bulbs into. 4-5 bulbs will be great.

If your space is 5x2.5 , the ts1000 is 3x3 so it doesn’t look like it will fit.
A light like that will be better, but there goes your budget for soil and nutrients and seeds, ventilation, and tools ect.

Would there be a cheaper lighting option? Yeah, we have 12w bulbs, with things to screw them into, lol. What type of ventilation will we need for such a small place?

They talked about one plant not filling up the 5x2.5 space

Mars has a blurple that's like $79, it is better than light bulbs.

Promix HP is like $30
Mega Crop has a free 750g bag which will last about one grow. I'm using that now and is simple and easy

And a fan is good for now to keep it good

Buying 4 LED light bulbs is the cheapest lighting option I think. Hmm. The sun is free but it’s kind of too late for that. You could look for deals on classifieds. You could spend 100$ on a amazon blurple.

For ventilation, a small fan to blow air around inside would be good, but a fan to blow fresh air into the space would be better. How will you let air in and out of the room?

A good thing about the LED bulbs is that if you change your mind on growing you still have 4 lightbulbs to illuminate your house.

Prices depend on where you live, so a Mars blurple could be cheaper and better. It wouldn’t be for me.
