If you don't want to read the whole thing, fine. It's long-ish. Read the last two paragraphs.

Mr Harper has created a government in Canada much like the one we enjoy here in the United States. It's only more noticeably obnoxious because he did so many odious things in such a short time in order to catch up.

Canadians must be wondering if they stepped into a fascist diorama- only it's all happened so quickly and thoroughly that one simply must suspect a sinister master plan behind it all.

Hand the country to the corporations? Give it all, both money and ultimate power to the fatcats? That's exactly what Mr Harper is indeed in the process of doing. Sound familiar, anyone?!

But of course! We've known about his Neo-Lib/Con hard-on since the Iraq war. However, it wasn't until he had majority on the Hill before the gears became revved up. What's it been...3 years? How many omnibus bills?

My favourite part of the article was this:
For a man who insists on such intense control, the prime minister has not managed to control much that matters. The argument for all this secrecy was a technocratic impulse — he imagined Canada as a kind of Singapore, only more polite and rule abiding.

Here's where he screwed up; the leader of Singapore ruthlessly hunted down and crushed corruption wherever he found it. That is the miracle of Singapore as much as anything else- and of course the lesson was missed once again by the Harper crew.

Democratic citizens need an effective defense against such ruthlessness run unchecked both in Canada and in the Units States.

Do you really think Harper qualifies as 'ruthless'? He's an asshole, sure. Annoyingly deceptive and conniving, too, but 'ruthless'?

Yeah, I would define him as ruthless. He will do anything to anyone for power, it's what he has always done. From his white supremacist days, to the reform party to the CONs...he will step on anyone. Read "Party of One"... definetly ruthless.

Just ask all of the people under his campaign bus.

How many people has he destroyed just so he can essentially stand there and say he doesn't know what happens in his own office and act like he holds no responsibility.
This is actually a very common leadership style. Many leaders travel this path to power.

It remains up to Canadians to decide whether it's the kind of leadership they want.

Trust me stikk...not many here in Canada....would admit to voting for the cons right about now....
I live in a Conservative dominated area....which has been con....for virtually 80 years...
best I can hope for....is to cancel out someone else's con... vote....
but at least their isn't many blue signs on the lawns this year....which is a pleasure to see.....
