BCBD Jack Herer, Barneys Farm Tangerine Dream. 1st grow 600w

Cascadian: I am excited for these two TGA strains, the one I really want to try however is Timewreck (Vortex X Trainwreck). I would have to pick NYC Sour Diesel over almost any strain. Chemdog and its offspring are the most effective meds I have tried for my IBS, plus I love the taste!
Indica phenos not always bad, does the smoke have a more indica or sativa effect?

Dopeydog: Thank you so much man! It is my first grow! The house has been smelling nice for the past few weeks when the filter isn't running, but I just started trimming and man is it strong. The full tent shots do no justice to seeing it in person, but seeing it every day this winter in Michigan surely helps cure the winter blues. I love the icon btw, the Greatful Dead was my first concert in San Fransisco at 4 months old when Jerry was still alive. My parent are true deadheads and have seen over 200 shows each. I love my hippie parents!

The smoke is a pretty balanced effect but definitely is indica leaning, unlike more typical phenos of jack herer. I have heard great things about Chemdog, really looking forward to flowering the NYC S. Diesel...

Hippie parents are awsome...

Peace,
Cascadian

So I decided to do a staged harvest to try to harvest the buds selectively based on ripeness. This also allows me to wet trim the buds which I think does less damage to the buds then dry trimming. I have harvested on three days so far, day 73, 74 and 76, I think the final harvest will be on day 80 and 81. I am keeping all the buds labeled by which plant and day they were harvested so I will be able to record weight per plant but then put the JH into jars based on harvested date. This will allow me to compare which day I think the plants were at peak ripeness for next grow.
IMG_1349.jpg Headbands on day 52 of flowering, just started to flush.
IMG_1287.jpgIMG_1299.jpgIMG_1354.jpg Tangerine Dream, Still living, fresh trimmed, and finally what I have harvested thus far
IMG_1301.jpg JH1 fresh trimmed bud, may have missed a few spots... got a little to medicated
IMG_1353.jpgIMG_1351.jpg JH1 and JH2 harvested buds
IMG_1290.jpgIMG_1352.jpg JH3 fresh trimmed and then after a few days drying
IMG_1285.jpgIMG_1348.jpg The full tent before and after her the hair cut.
IMG_1357.jpg A few JH popcorns I tried! Pretty good.

Finally my favorite trimming music

Nice looking buds man, and awsome trimming music... If only I could get my girlfriend to rock out to that... She is a great trimmer!

Peace,

So here's kinda the big one! I have harvested the main flowering plants, Headband should be done by Monday at the latest I hope. As of now I yielded almost 8 oz total with JH#1 topping the charts at 2.62 oz, the TD with 2.60 (so close, and I'm very happy!) JH#2 at 2.25 and JH#3 at 12.4 grams (haha) plus all the bottom stuff and trim for hash. What do you guys prefer BHO or ice wax? I was thinking about doing ice wax because I don't have anywhere to blast, but I have a few friends who make bho so we will see.

IMG_0073.jpg Throw back Thursday to my Jack Herer seedling
IMG_0213.jpg And tbt again to my original lineup before I found out about top dawg and GSC. In the back is Tangerine Dream and as you can see JH has always been tall, standing in the way back.
IMG_1424.jpg HB1 this smells like sour diesel and citrus. YUM
IMG_1422.jpgIMG_1390.jpg HB2 dying leaves and all, this smells like pure fuel, very raw and very stinky. Double YUM
IMG_1342.jpg TD top cola
IMG_1363.jpg Jars of meds
IMG_1362.jpgIMG_1420.jpgIMG_1379.jpg JH bud porn
IMG_1425.jpg The next grow, gonna try some vertical scrog and see how that goes. Cotton candy on the left, Chernobyl middle/ back right and The Flav front right, plus HB2 getting some sun.
I also should be getting a clone of Timewreck finally, I gave this guy clones 3 or 4 months ago and hes finally getting me the last of the clones he owed me lol... friends always there when they need you, never when you need them it seems.

Cascadian: I think having a girlfriend who loves to trim to Tool should be somewhere up on the list of priorities for a girlfriend... Damn, maybe that's why I'm single...

Way to premature smoke report: JH: This stuff is frosty as can be, medium to semi dense nugs. The super cropped stems yielded denser buds it seems. Smoke is smooth for only a 5 days in a jar, decent flavor of spicy black pepper, but with an underlying sweetness more apparent then my even more premature test earlier. I feel this sweetness will slowly become even more enhanced as the bud cures.

TD: I have only smoked one joint of this, the flavor is acceptable, not as intense of a citrus as the smell, this will hopefully change in time. These nugs are loose to medium density at best. I am very disappointed by this because they appeared like they would be more dense then the JH for a long time.

I will keep updating smoke reports until 4/20 when I feel the bud should be just about prime.

Agree, I am working on it believe me! She is a damn good trimmer though so I can tolerate it... lol

My girlfriend always says that the Jack Herer tastes like Blueberry, and I generally agree with her. I think I might have gotten a clone that was mislabeled or something, not complaining but not as confident that it is legit JH anymore... Could just be a purple/Blueberry pheno but it definitely tastes like blueberries..

Anyway, those colas look delicious! Well done Bro..

Just a quick update this week, will get some nice finished bud shots and everything next week. I just got some camera attachments for my iphone to play with so I want a week to see what I can do. I also got a digilux mh and general organics go box to run for my next grow. I'm pretty stoked, this digilux is far brighter and more tonally balanced between red/orange and blue/purple. The ipower bulb appeared almost cold blue, this is more of a warm white color like 5000K and did I say bright? Harvested both the headbands, #2 on day 62 and #1 on day 65. #1 could have used another week or two at least but I already switched over to the veg room so it ran out of luck... Both these plants are intense on the nose almost too raw and offensive. I smoked a little of the #2 and it was potent in every way, smell, taste, effect. Needless to say I think both of the headbands are hanging around for a while longer.

Cascadian, yeah sucks that places mislabel clones and such, considering this is supposed to be medicine then that's like handing someone the wrong prescription.

Congrats on the successful harvest!

After a little more research I found that there is a "purple indica pheno" of JH, so I suppose I will give it the benefit of the doubt. I know the purple kush I got from the same source was the legit clone only strain (I compared it to PK at a dispensary).

Wish I could give you a better opinion on what to do with the trim. I have researched BHO and decided against using it. A friend of mine independently decided the same. I would rather make an extract out of something that is relatively harmless in small quantities like ISO 99 or Everclear 190. I guess if perfected, the process could be safe (removing the butane and residual chemicals), but it's not for me... I made my trim into RSO last time but I would recommend it other than for making into balms for topical use. Next round I am planning on giving QWISO (quick wash ISO) a try.

+rep for a very well done first grow, you did way better than I did on my first try...

Cascadian, after further deliberation I have decided I will run ice wax with it using bubble bags and then warm press it using the french cannoli method into a full melt. This seems the most natural and organic way to create a product that can be dabbed which is ultimately my goal. I would love to make RSO because I believe this is cannabis medicine in its most effective form, however Rick Simposon suggests only using the top quality bud for this from indica dominate plants. I don't have enough bud for that or any indicas, but I am looking into getting a cbd strain and and indica in the future for this purpose. I am going to be moving into a bigger place soon hopefully and getting a few patients (Michigan allows 12 plants per patient) which would allow me variety and overages to turn into RSO. I have read about most of those methods, the only thing I would consider is Everclear because anything iso touches that I ingest destroys my very sensitive digestive system no matter how well purged. I think its residual impurities in the 91% around here. I think 99% is the only product suited for medicinal use.

Cool research on the indica purple JH pheno, where did you find the that if you remember? I always love a rare strain!

Thank you so much for following along, I am pleased with the results, they are curing out pretty well. I am also trying to get these buds tested at Iron Labs just to have a baseline. I am pleased for a first grow and am excited to go organic, and eventually into true living organic soil. I believe this will be a fun challenge for me, but eventually will lead to what I hope will be the best meds I have ever enjoyed. I always want to be trying to improve my grow so I can sort through all the mixed opinions I have read. Thank you again

You put together a nice journal here, I am happy to follow along man. I was reading about the purple indica pheno over on "a different" forum. Someone ordered seeds and one of the phenos was a purple and had more indica leaves. I didn't see any smoke report but it was enough for me to have confidence that it is likely legit.

Orgainic weed cannot be beat IMO. I have been smoking my own organic for a while now and recently went to a dispensary and picked up some Tangelo and some White Fire OG. I could barely finish one bowl of it, half the taste was pure chemical. I think it the downside of prices being low people pump a bunch of crap into it to pump it up and make sure pests die, I think some growers also spray the finished buds with something to increase weight. I won't touch anything but my own now...

Really like the Ice Wax idea but not familiar with the french cannoil. Sounds like a pretty natural process. I highly recommend getting a high CBD strain if medicinal is the goal.

Peace

Just wanted to share some photos and a few smoke reports.

olimmilo: thanks man, Like I said I'm happy, but eager to improve! I think the main goal is not to much nutes, and as much light as you can afford, and good rh, temp, and airflow. Thats all I had in mind the whole grow. I'm def doing bubble, I just don't want to grow organic medicine next grow only to run a non organic, not to mention carcinogenic substance through it. Just seems counterproductive even with purging, or de-waxing, or any turning it into absolute shatter... bubble is for me!

Cascadian: The frenchy cannoli thread can be found https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/648510-french-cannoli-hash-thread.html. Anyways I'm stoked to go organic and really get to enjoy cannabis properly. I feel you on only tasting chems. That's kinda how I feel about my buds. I knew I wouldn't like the chem nutes but I got them for free and I spent a bunch on other stuff so I thought I'd try them. Maybe for hydro they work, but soil and organics are meant to be together. I don't even want to know what some people do to their buds, the idea of it scares me. I go to one dispensary that the guys are real passionate about cannabis at to buy anything that isn't mine. The owner used to work for the gov in Mississippi growing acres of G13 he says 21 feet tall. I can't imagine walking through that field. I am working on getting my hands on a clone of Cannatonic #4 that tests at around 11% CBD from them, so that will be nice. Plus I have 5 regular seeds of land race Lebanese, a 100% indica, on the way. The goal is to make some crosses with these eventually, and also I am trying to possibly get my hands on a GDP cut as well, which has around 2% CBD. I also gave them a sample of my bud to get lab tested at Iron Labs in Michigan.

2. Effect onset [6] Rate how quickly the effect hit from 1-10 immediate-major creeper.

3. Sativa influence [8] Rate the sativa influence detected from 0-10 none-extreme. Sativa influence is best described as a clear and energetic mental effect.

4. Indica influence [2] Rate the indica influence detected from 0-10 none-extreme. Indica influence is best described as a sedative,
lethargic or numbing effect that affects the body.

5. Potency [7] Rate the potency of the sample from 0-10 none-devastating.

6. Duration [2-3] Indicate the number of hours the effects lasted.

7. Tolerance build up [ ] Rate how quickly tolerance builds from 0-10 none-rapid. Leave this field blank if you have not used this sample repeatedly.

8. Usability [high] Rate on a scale of 1-9 where a one indicates the worst time of day to consume this strain and a nine represents the ideal time of day.
Leave field(s) blank if you have not yet formed an opinion.

Morning - wake up [9] Day - work [9] Evening - relax [9] Night - sleep [4]

9. Overall satisfaction [7] Rate your overall satisfaction from 1-10 poor-Holy Grail.

10.Ability and conditions [9] Rate your overall ability to judge from 1-10 low-high. Consider experience, strain familiarity, atmosphere,
current tolerance and most importantly the condition and preparation of the sample. I smoke about 5 new strains a week of top quality Michigan medicinal

11.Judging from the sample alone do you personally consider this
strain a keeper for long term use. Yes [ ] No [x] It will get 2 or 3 more runs probably. Not a throw away, good potency and I may make a few crosses with it. Just not a huge fan of the lack of terpenes.

12.Rate the noticable effects on a scale of 1-9 mild-severe. Good for nausea, appetite stimulation, depression, anxiety and digestive issues, uplifting, makes music sound better, slightly trippy nothing major. Keeps me awake at night sometimes if I smoke to much or not enough maybe... Nice feeling in the eyes and the top of the head around the third eye chakra immediatley after smoking, makes me smile, and more conversational at work. This is good because I am a waiter and I get pretty good tips with a little help from my friend. I would say this bud may be to potent for some people to use at work, but I have a pretty high tolerance although the first hour is definitely sometimes kind of a haze after about 20 minutes in. After about an hour and a half I come down and sometimes become tired if I'm not doing anything. If I am busy the high just kinda slowly fades away and leaves me energetic and hungry.

I got my lab results back for my grow.

Obviously not to impressed with the numbers especially tangerine dream, but it is my first grow and now I have a baseline.
