1000hps or 600hps

Should you run 3 600hps and spread out the light
OR
use 2 1000hps and have better penetration

The cost of 3 600hps lamps will be more then 2 1000hps, but the 600's will be more efficient and save you money in the long run...So...What is it? Or should you have 5 400hps's? Whats uP?
 
My 1000w HPS is getting on in her years so I am switchin to 2 400w HPS's hope they do the job.
 
To me it depends on how tall your plants are gonna be. SOG...I'd go with 3-600's or the 5- 400's and get em close. Trees? I'd probably go w/1000's
 
Nice posts you guys, I figured there would be more responce though. I figured that this thread could help some folks that were on the fence with what light set-up that would work for them.. So far, growing tree's- get 1000w, sog 400-600, basic but good info...Keep it up!
 
well it looks like im going to be the Dr. here, my new room is a 1000w HPS for 3 plants, im just near finishing 4 under 1 x600w but will do 3 under 2 600w next.

The down side is i wont have a result for about 16 weeks :cry::cry:

I would go with 2 1000 and use the solar max1 bulb which is a 400mh and a 600hps in the same bulb. This will give u both spectrums of light for most of the grow... for the last 5 weeks of flower you would switch to a 1000hps.
The solarmax1 bulbs are about $200.00 each but well worth it.

Nice, I have not heard about these bulbs before, I will check into them! Scratch one up for the big Watts!
