Battery Back Up

Hi there

I am trying to buy a battery back up for my 60 unit EZ Cloner but I don't know which size to buy. (So if the power goes out there is enough electricity to power the pump for a day or so.)

The model EZ Cloner I have uses a MAG925/WP3000 pump that takes 1.5 amps. Does anyone know how much wattage that takes per hour (day, etc) ?

Thanks

Batteries are rated in "Amp Hours" so if you have 1 amp running for 1 hour that is one amp hour...
However I suspect your pump runs on AC and the battery will be DC. Is this a backup power supply that is like built in the store? or are you planning to just hook up a battery because that won't work.
If it is a made power supply it should say how many watts it will handle for how long I imagine. So if your pump is 1.5 Amps running at 120 Volts, 1.5 X 120 it will be drawing about 180 watts, except Motors are a little different but close enough for what we are dealing with :-)

I am gonna buy from a supplier (like TigerDirect). They have a 1200 watt one for about $250. By the way, when you say that 1.5 amps is about 180 watts, is that watts per hour ? or day ? or ?. If it watts per hour, then the 1200 watt capacity one should run the system for about 7 hours without power?

Thanks for the info!

They are 2 different measurements....
The 180 Watts is what it draws to operate at every given moment so that means that your 1200 watt backup would easily handle this and other loads... Now you have to look into the details of your backup battery for how long it will last, the battery would have an Amp Hour rating, not sure if they would post this info or not, then you will use your 1.5 amps times 24 hours or whatever you want to find out how big your battery needs to be...
