Basics For Growing Outdoors?

This is basically the second time I have grown before, last summer I planted about 7 and by the end of summer I had about 5 healthy 7 foot tall ones, but then we had a week of pure rain and it drowned them all.

So my only option for growing is outdoors, I have no room in my house without my roomates finding out. I live in Wisconsin in the country so I can probly find areas to grow easily, and I can only plant in spring so they have time to grow.

So basically I am looking for the essentials that I would need to grow outdoors, or any tips on anything that would help me out in m situtation. I'm not a very expirienced grower so I don't know much :/

Any help/tips are apreciated, thanks.

My two cents worth.....I've grown outside for years, if a week of rain killed your plants my guess would be the dirt the plants are in. Make sure that the soil is well drained and doesn't hold so much water around the roots. If you have clay based soil try mixing some mason sand (white sand) they sell in Home Depot for a couple of bucks. fdd is master on this site so ask him and read faq. Better luck next grow.
