Barneys Farm Pineapple Express First Grow

So I ordered some Pineapple Express autoflowering seeds from the Attitude Seedbank for my first grow. I picked these ones because they supposedly tend to stay pretty small (40-50cm). I'm growing in Miracle Grow soil, and I'm using CFL lights, a 55w, a 40w, and 2 26w on 24/7. Right now I'm only growing one of them, I'm probably going to wait until summer so I can grow the others outside. It's really small, probably like 1-2 inches tall, but it's pretty fat and I think it's healthy looking.

I took these pictures today, it's been 13 days since it's sprouted. I just noticed today that it's starting to smell. Is it too small for it's age?

Congrats on starting your first grow!

I think some may flame you for your choice in soils, but I won't be one of those. I also went with what was readily available locally for my first grow (not MG potting soil, but something else cheap) and have had decent results thus far.

As to your question, I would have to say that "yes" it looks a little small to me for 13 days after sprout. Ironically, I can't help but wonder if the aforementioned soil isn't part of the culprit. I've heard it said that MG soil is a little on the "hot" side for seedlings. Maybe it's slowing the growth down, but I really don't know for sure.

Other than small, it does look healthy in those pics, so I wouldn't worry. My White Widow Auto seemed slow starting for me as well, then here in the fourth week she's hit a growth spurt and tripled in size. Hopefully that will happen to yours as well.

Keep the pics coming as often as you can so I can watch!

looking great man.

1 pointer i willgive you growing in MG soil. DONT water untill runoff, actually just a little water to keep them going is all you need right now.

why?

MG has "time release" nutrients, and by time release they mean water release. the more you water the more ferts get released into the soil. if you water alot i will almost gaurentee you will burn your plants.

just a little water every day. and by little i mean like a shot glass full. unless your lights are super hot this should be more than enough for them.

otherwise looks great for day 13 they seem to be doing fine. just keep them temps in check and plenty of new air coming in and they should flourish.

Here are a couple pics from today, it looks like it grew a tiny bit over night. I noticed how it kind of looks symmetrical now. Do you guys think 24 hours of light is okay? I read somewhere that cannabis is a C3 plant, so it doesn't need a dark period because it gathers all CO2 during the light period.

Congrats on growing! Every grow will be diff and every strain reacts diff..maybe I missed it but what size light do you have? Also do you have a oscillating fan on them on low? That will help the stems grow strong..also I prefer starting out 18/6 not so much stress on young seedlings..just my op though

Just saw that you are using cfl's..no exp on that for me but most I've seen keep them close..another tip when plant is little only water when necessary, that will encourage the roots to grow..besides cfl's probably have min heat

I have a 55w cfl, 40w cfl, and 2 26w. I know it's not a lot but I figured it would be fine for one plant, and I'm not really expecting a big yield. Oh and yes I have a fan on low, but it doesn't oscillate, it's blowing over it and the plant moves around a tiny bit
you have plenty of lights for them right now, try and invest in a couple more each week or as you can afford them. by the time they get into flower your going to want around 400 actual watts if not more for 3 full sized plants. honestly i would recoment a cheapo HID light if its possible. for around 160 bucks you can pick up a pretty nice kit off amazon.

but if thats not an option look into rigging up a couple power strips with Y conectors and adapters that plug into the power strip and have a light bulb socket on them.

i made this for fairly cheap.

a piece of strapping and some sockets at home depo. used a throw away turkey pan for the reflector but it holds the heat so some holes in it would be ideal. the sky is the limit with DIY projects man get creative :)

i made this rig around a year and a half ago and its still running in my veg tent. my 400w shit the bed and i had this on hand so its filling in untill i can buy my 600w. plants are vegging just fine though under it.

Here were my plants on day 13 for comparison

Also, I'm on day 9 of flower of my first grow with my new 96w 2'x4 tube T-5. Link is in my signature if anyone wants to check it out. Need some more people following it and giving advice.

Alright I'll definitely look into making something like that, thank you sir!

it means you obviously dont know what your talking about.

his seedlings look just fine for 13 days. not sure how big you think they should be but on average every seedling i have sprouted it about the same size on day 13.
I'm going to stay respectful because I don't believe in telling people what they do or do not know, especially when I don't know them. I was just saying they are a tad on the small side. That is neither good or bad. How do you know what I have grown? READ the other posts...it seems the consensus is they are a little small. You are telling me its obvious that I don't know what I am talking about but in the next breath you tell him to "rig up some power strips" ?

and what exactly is wrong with rigging up power strips for CFL's?

I actually recomended a cheaper HID light but if he dosent want to go that route i recomended poerstrip CFL rigs or to make something like i did.

not going argue with you on this guys thread. My opinion is his plants are fine for thier age they are not even 2 weeks yet. Im not sure either when people count day 1. I start counting as soon as its above soil and shed its seed shell.

I could see telling him they are a tad small if they were 4 weeks old but they are still working on developing a root system and a sturdy stem so at 13 days they seem to be where they should be.

We all have our own opinions and I told him mine. There was no need to tell me to "grow something then comment" Just give your opinion and carry on! There is nothing wrong with using power strips the way they are intended...And just Google power strip fires...here is a example. Before you go "rigging up power strips" do your homework and make sure you are not over loading them. Do it right the first time...or there may not be a second.

well i have over 400w plugges into my power strip and its fine. alot of times fires arent cause by overloading them they are caused by loose plugs arcing out. Genreally even if you built a power strip light with 10x 55w CFL thats 555w. most power strips are made to handle about 15 amps which is around 1400w being safe, 1800w pushing it.

most people are not going to buy 10x 55w CFLs they usually use 26w CFL's so thats only 226w, a average power strip can handle at least 3x that. so as long as everything is plugged in correctly and he isnt overloading the strip he should be fine. Shouldnt have to tell him to be carefull as it should be a given in any electrical people use in this hobby not just CFL's.

Surge Protector and Power Strip Safety
Information from Yale University Office of the Fire Marshal
Every year, thousands of fires result from surge protectors, power strips and electrical cords. Listed below are some suggestions to help prevent a possible fire from beginning.
•
Use only surge protectors or power strips that have an internal circuit breaker. These units will trip the breaker if the power strip is over loaded or shorted to prevent overheating.
•
Surge protectors, power strips, or extension cords are not a substitute for permanent wiring.
•
If at any time the surge protector or plug strip is hot to the touch remove and replace the unit. The electrical load for this strip should be evaluated for overloading.
•
At no time should a surge protector or plug strip be placed in a situation that will allow it to be exposed to a moist environment
•
Any surge protector or power strip that does not have an internal circuit breaker, has frayed wires, or has a unit that is not working properly, should be replaced immediately.
•
Do not plug a surge protector or power strip into an existing surge protector or power strip. This practice is called "daisy chaining" or "piggy backing" and can lead to serious problems.
•
All surge protectors or power strips need to be UL (Underwriters Laboratory) or ETL (Electrical Testing Laboratories) approved. The UL or ETL label must never be removed from the unit. On the underside of the casing, there should be the manufacturer's name and the name of the testing lab where the unit was tested.
•
There should only be one surge protector or power strip plugged into a single duplex electrical outlet.
•
Do not locate a surge protector or power strip in any area where the unit would be covered with carpet, furniture, or any other item that will limit or prevent air circulation.
•
Do not staple, tack, or tape a surge protector or power strip.
•
Visually inspect all surge protectors or power strips on a regular basis to ensure that they are not damaged or showing signs of degradation. During the visual inspection, ensure that the plug is fully engaged in their respective outlets.
•
When the surge protector or plug strip is not in use, unplug the unit.
•
The surge protector or power strips should always have either a polarized plug with one of the blades being larger then the other one or a three-prong grounded plug. Never use a three to two prong adapter to power the unit.
•
Surge protectors or power strips should have a cord of no more than 6 feet in length.
•
Never plug medical equipment into a surge protector or power strip unless it is approved for this purpose.

Not all MG soil has time release nutes, I just bought a bag of MG and it has continuous release nutrients.
