If your company gets big enough and you stay out of politics you will be pulled in front of a senate committee AKA Apple and Microsoft. Now they spend hundreds of millions on political campaigns to keep the dogs at bay...

That could be for some companies but here is some info from ford that is interesting..

With proper executive approval, Ford may contribute to support or oppose a U.S. state or local ballot proposal, if such contributions are permitted by law and if the issue is of significant interest or importance to the Company. Information with respect to contributions made in connection with ballot questions and referenda is publicly available through the appropriate local or state reporting authorities.

Who really runs Ford? - The United Auto Workers... Probably one of the larger Democratic fundraisers. They dont have to be political since their entire employee base is even without their knowledge and/or permission.
