[bagseed] Big Box Grow - 600w MH/HPS

Hey All!

So this is technically my 2nd grow, but the first one a year back didn't finish due to unforeseen circumstances, I do not plan on running into any problems like that again.

I am doing this grow with a close friend who I can trust, which is a must, of course.

*I am starting this grow log a little late (10-12 days) so I will preface it with a little background up until today.*

Anyway, we started with 7, healthy in appearence, good bagseed in seperate containers.

2 were planted in soil on the 31st of March, and the other 5 were added on the 5th of this month.

We started the first 2 seedlings under two shitty CFLS, until we acquired our HID lights. :hump:

We have had;

1 400w MH
2 100w HPS

on the plants since April 5th. I think this is a great amount of light, of course when we get to flowering, it will be 600w of HPS with maybe some cfls around to promote some vegetative growth, not sure just yet.

We have been using a 24/0 light cycle, but we are switching to 18/6 today!!

Anyway, here is a picture of the box we are using.

This is essentially day 2 from when 5 of the 7 sprouted, but for simplicities sake, we will just assume all the plants are all the same age, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

To help identify the plants for the reader, here is a close up on day 2, note how the far left (in brown pot) and far right (circular pot) look a little older, that is because they are the ones that popped March 31st.

A few things about the box, to start.

It is 4ft wide, 5ft tall, and 3ft deep. I think this is ample amount of room for 7 plants to start, and hopefully 4-5 females. As you can see, it has mylar all the way around.

The front of the box is open, we have plastic panda sheeting for the front of the box that we can peel back when we are working on it.

Here is where my issue with the box comes in.

As it stands, our airflow is reliant on a small fan in the corner, as you can see, that is blowing on an angle up... the top of the box is open. Obviously, as the plants get bigger we will get a bigger fan. But air flow is a major concern of mine right now, the temps right now with all 600w of HID light, stands at about 80 degrees.

*If anyone has any recommendations on improving our airflow, please share, we are desperately looking for a different way to get fresh air in there!!!*

Anyway, that is what we are working with as far as the box goes.

Now, on to the good stuff.

DAY 3 - April 8th

Here they are on day 4 or April 10th, just hanging out.

We have just been feeding water whenever the soil gets dry an inch down in the pot. We are very cautious on the watering at this stage, we do not want to over water or do anything of that sort, when we know they will just be soaking up water in a week or so.

DAY 8 - April 13th

I don't want to bore you guys too much with the small adjustments we made as we were getting our box established, so I'll try and cut to the chase and get this journal up to date.

Here are the plants on Day 9 from sprout.

This is the setup we are using to date.

These are some really old/rigged ballasts for these 100w HPS... but the more lumens the merrier, right?

We just started feeding the plants with superthrive on this day. Half a capfull per gallon of water. And we alternate days we superthrive and just feed regular water.

DAY 10 - APRIL 15TH

close up of our biggest...

a look at the other soon to be girls

a side look at all of them.

Ok, now that everyone is caught up, I can give you a report on last nights check-in and what is going on.

DAY 12 - APRIL 17TH

The exponential growing has started, these girls are just thriving right now.

So, up until last night we have been feeding on an alternate schedule, water and then superthrive.

We will continue to do this through the vegetative cycle.

Now, for a few questions before I update with new pictures from today...

Now for a few questions...

1. Do they look ready to transplant? If so, should we move into 2 gallon pots or what? What do you guys recommend? I am thinking 2-3 gallon pots, and then another transplant to 5 gallon, once we sex and find the females

2. Is it safe to start feeding some high nitrogen nutes? I think its safe now.

3. As I said earlier in this very lengthy post, what can we do to improve the air flow and reduce some temps. From the pics, you should be able to get a good idea of how the box is setup and what it looks like.

4. We are starting the 18/6 today. Is it best to water/feed before the lights go on/right as they go on, or right before they go off?

That all I can think of right now, as I am semi-drunk/stoned enjoying this beautiful Saturday.

We are in this for the long haul and are dead set on yielding some quality buds. We both have seen/experienced an 1800 watt, 2lbs over 4 white russians from one of our close friends, so we have some experience from that grow, but we are not in contact with that person anymore and for any problems we run into, we are looking at the fine people of this community to help us out.

I will be very thorough with this grow log and update it constantly, so plan on seeing this near the top of the threads every day!! I'm not going anywhere, and neither are these beautiful girls.

I will update with today's pictures a little later today.

Cheers!:bigjoint:

Day 16 - April 21st

So, our 400w MH bulb went out yesterday morning. Today we replaced it with a new 400w MH, so having a fresh new bulb in there will be great for the girls.

Also, we transplanted today in 1.5gal pots.

Much to our expectations that were just ready to go into a new pot...

I am really pleased with how superthrive works. If anyone is not using it, they are missing out greatly. Superthrive definitely makes a difference. It is a staple in growing, I do not now how else to put it.

We transplanted today into some Sun Gro Black Gold.

Here they are in their new homes...

It appears as if 2 of the plants are taking the 400w being off for a while a little hard. They seem to be a tad droopy.

I am also wondering if some of them look like they are stretching a little too much.

Right now we have the 400w light about 1.5-2ft above the plants... We do have a smaller fan blowing right about the plants/at the plants, so I would think that would help with the heat from the light.

Does anyone think moving it closer would benefit us, as far as keeping the height lower during the vegetative state, and focusing more on building nodes?

While it does suck not knowing exactly what you are growing, it is cool to see the different ways these strains grow and come to be.

Here is a weird looking one compared to the others

We will be watering with superthrive until thursday, which we will then start its first feed of some high nitrogen nutes + superthrive...

As of now, we plan on force flowering by the 25th, maybe earlier.

That is it for now.

Let's let nature do its thing.

Update...

Day 22 - April 27th

Rapid growth in these new pots we put them in. Not to mention, brand new MH Bulb, giving off 100% of the lumens it was designed for.

Here is a shot of all 7 plants.

Yesterday was actually the first day we fed them, 1/4 of regular feeding of pure blen pro grow along with superthrive...

What is a good feeding schedule for these plants with this pure blend pro grow & superthrive??? Should we be using anything else along with this stuff???

Here is a our little freak plant... Not sure what's up with the growth, but its crazy lookin compared to the others....

And along with that, we have a blatant indica

and heres another picture....

All in All, I think the grow is going great...

I think we should force flower no later than may 15th, hoping to at the very least get 3 females out of 7...

Also, the light has been on 18/6 since about day 18... so I think vegging till about day 35 would be decent for these plants.

Let me know!!! I would like some feedback!!!
