I got purple stems..

whats the deal with them??
Let's see if we can get this one done a little easier. I had A LOT of purple in the main stalk and the stems. This was caused by a miscalibrated PH meter and the nutrient problems early on. Both were corrected and over some time they have gotten better. I don't really know that my main stalk will return back to green, but I know that the plants are much happier and healthier.

If your main stalk is turning purple/red you may have some problems. Pictures are just worth a 1000 words.

I was told purple stems just depends on the plant and its genetics. My girls are happy (although not perfect) and my PH is dead on...plus im in soil...but I have noticed the stems are pretty dark purple. BRB :D

See? :D Looks cool IMO.

I am going to defer to the "purple stems" expert and let him handle this one. What would you suggest is the issue here? That stalk is turning slightly purple, but he claims PH is dead on and otherwise the plants look healthy. I assume that the yellowing in the leaves is actually just from the flash on the camera (mine does that too).

I don't grow in soil much so I can't really help you much.

I'm not in any way trying to be an ass with this post. Purple stalks is not my area of expertise and I'm interested in how it would be rectified and whether or not the stalk should return to green.

Man, odor is KILLING me right now. I live in an apartment and these bitches are starting to stink up the ENTIRE place already.

My neighbor is a sheriff so I need to resolve this problem pretty quick. I am already running a 6" fan w/ a Can - 66 filter and it's not doing the job.

I've never had this problem SO early on. Has barely shown sex and for some reason they are already stinking like a mofo.

A lot has to to do with the design of my grow closet and ineffeciently using the filter, but I've moved the filter and changed it so that it should be the primary exhaust for the room and hopefully that will resolve it for me.

If not, I'm going to buy another filter to run OUTSIDE of the closet so that it can 'clean up' the leftover stank.

I hope these bitches turn out wonderful, they really have been quite the pain this time around.

So I woke up this morning to a new problem. All of the new growth on the 6 "OG Kush" plants (doubtful that's what they are) are yellowing. I've never experienced yellowing new growth so I'm at a little bit of a loss.

Bleezy, although we've had our differences I'm hoping you can help a brotha out here.

These plants are definitely more Sativa then the 4 others and the 4 others seem just fine. Not showing any signs of problems yet.

Just starting this morning it seems the new growth although growing is a quite pale yellow and I don't really know where to start with this one.

I would ask around here, but honestly I don't think I'll ever end up at a real solution. PH is spot on and I'm @ 1000ppm using AN SensiBloom and I've added CarboLoad as of Tues. which is the only thing I can think that might have started this new problem.

I was thinking either Sulfer or Iron Defeciency, but I've seen Fe defeciency before and it's usually the pale new growth but the veins are still green, this is kind of just a pale yellowing in the new growth. Could also be that I'm crazy and it's just the combination of the lighter colored new growth and the HPS light, but it just seems so drastic and so yellow this time. Then again it's 5 days into 12/12 and they are growing rapidly, could just be normal. I'll take pics today and keep an eye on it and see if that new growth eventually gets darker or stays yellow.

So the first week is done. 7 days of 12/12 behind us and things are only looking "ok". Growth has been good this week and starting to see the budsites forming, but the yellowing on the tops is not a figment of my imagination. It's actaully happening and I'm not exactly sure how to correct it.

I'm going to post in "plant problems" and see what people come back with, but it's too early for me to be having more problems. These plants have just been more of a pain than usual.

I agree that this strain that's going around right now in the So Cal MMJ market that's called "OG Kush" is not the real deal. These plants are looking EXACTLY like my plants that were "Banana Kush" the last time that I grew them and the entire way through the flowers had the same yellow hue.

I just confirmed looking at old pictures that these bitches are DEAD Ringers for those bitches and I'm sure that neither one of them was what they proclaimed to be.

I've also gotten GDP clones from a dispensary that were CLEARLY not GDP. There's just no way to tell what you're getting anymore. These guys buy clones that were called this, they make mothers, the sell clones and the bad naming just continues on.

Regardless, I'm going to let this go for a week and if they turn more green as the leaves mature I'll assume it's a trait of the flowers, if they remain yellow I will have to flush the resevoir and start fresh. Hope that whatever is upsetting them will be gone and check the measurements on all of the nutes and move forward.

They do grow like gangbusters though! I'm feeling big time production here.

Here's a lil help from my buddy smokeybandit22

I had the exact same problem and it was because i wasnt feeding enough, my res wasnt fully flushed and the pH wasnt properly maintained:peace:

your plants are showing textbook Pottasium deficiency- first pic lower leaves, yellowing to dead edges and than from tip back.excessive salinity in either the res-from not flushing properly or enough-or excessive salinity in the medium. It very well could be just a straigh potassium deficiency but by the progression of it, you may not be feeding enough and a greater portion is being locked out-plant cant not properly uptake.

I'm going to flush this weekend. The problem seems to have stopped growing. I flush my res every two weeks and I'm at 1200ppm right now. They are only about 2' feet tall and should be pretty much on schedule, but I'll see if a flush helps.

Ohh, and the PH is spot on all the time 6.0

I think I just had the lights too close. I had them about 6" in from the tops of the plants and the problem was only occuring at the tops. Seems to have slown or disappeared at this point.

Is your light air flowed or whatever cause if it is your suppose to have it 8" off them
I had them like an inch off mine and it burned the leaves "Oops =P"

pics pics pics :D
I'll grab some pics tomorrow...the little ones are sleeping and I just got home from work.

The light is not air cooled, but my carbon filter sucks from right on front of the hotter bulb. Then I have a huge box fan blowing across the tops.

I noticed that the yellow did indeed seem to only be occuring in the plants that where in the middle under the bulb and the tallest. Rearranged the plants a little bit and raised the lights quite a bit. After raising them I realized they were now at the right height and I must've been smoking some good shit to think I could have it that low.

Now the coverage on my tray is much better and that's a sure fire sign the light was too low before. I have 2 400w lights and I had darkness in probably 20% of the tray...yikes.

I had it so low because the two lights do a nice job of covering the tray and when the weather out here is nice and cold the lights don't get over 85, but I'm sure that when it was warm a couple of days ago it got pretty damned hot, probably a good 10 -15 degrees warmer because my source of air went from 40ish degree air to 70 degrees.

As promised, I have pictures this morning.

They are looking pretty good, I was going to wait until Saturday for pictures, but by popular demand here they are..

It is very strange that the yellowing does appear to be a Potassium Defeciency, I don't know why I would have a high Salinity level in my resevoir and I don't know why the problem has seemingly stopped progressing.

I use fresh water from Sparkletts and I've never had any problems with that in the past. Now the 'resevoir' that I'm using is not really a resevoir it's a tub that I found at my work and I may not have cleaned it well enough, but I scrubbed that thing for hours it seems like. When I flush this weekend I'll go to town on it again and try to make absolutely sure it's clean and I'll bump my nutes from 1200ppm to 1350ppm and see if they respond well.

The problem doesn't seem to be "out of control" so I don't want to do anything drastic, but obviously something needs to be done.

I have a 6" 360CFM fan on a Can-66 Carbon Filter
Thats the way to go
I dont smell a damn thing with mine

my light is bout 8" off mine got it air cooled and the entire tent is mylar reflective so even underneath the plants gets plenty of light :hump:

Yeah, I got lazy with this one and I already know that I need to tear it down as soon as it's done so I didn't bother with reflectivity. I'm planning on trying to get rid of a little bit this time to buy a tent to fit in the closet.

Wasn't worth building out the whole closet when I know the fire inspection is in May!
