Autobiography of a Red Diesel Mother

Hello everyone! My name is Dizzy the female Red Diesel. My dad is letting me take over his computer to tell my story. My maker, Barney's Farm, crossed NYCDiesel and California indica to make me.

My dad got me unopened in the original packaging from a friend that couldn't raise me. He let me sit around for a while because his wife didn't want him to raise me. Thankfully he didn't listen.

Dad has raised others like me before with mixed success. He and I sometimes sit around and laugh at pictures of his earlier experiments (see picture of that poor deflowered girl bent all to hell).

Keep reading to see my story unfold...

I guess in a way we all start from small beginnings. I was no different having traveled overseas as a tiny little seed only to sit in the dark for months before anyone would plant me.

Dad finally placed me about 1cm deep in a jiffy peat pellet that was saturated in water. He then placed me in a pot filled with 60% miracle grow (not my favorite environment) and 40% perlite. He then placed me under a single 42W CFL for warmth and light.

After 3 days I popped my head through the soil. It is so bright!

So my dad has this kid's area he made to veg several small plants or one large one. It's an old entertainment center with the shelves removed and several light sockets designed to hold CFLs. He has set it up so that it is all mine since I'm in a 3 gallon pot, and I will get much larger before children are taken from my branches.

Now that I'm several days old, dad has provided me with more light in my box. I have two 42W CFLs lighting me; one blue spectrum, and one red spectrum. I really like the color balance, and it doesn't get too hot for my young age.

OK, so after a few weeks of getting comfortable in my home; Dad drops a bombshell on me. He's going to chop my head off!!! Dad tells me that I will get too big for the box soon if he doesn't top me. Plus he said that topping me will help promote longer side branches that will become offspring. Reluctantly I agree.

If I'm still alive I'll write some more later...

OK, so it's been about 10 days and I recovered nicely. I grew several strong side branches and 3 main stems. I developed a bit of a magnesium deficiency while dad neglected me when he was gone for a week. Once again it is getting cramped in my home. Dad has a solution though.

He will bend/snap my branches over! I'm starting to wonder if I drew the best dad or not. This bending/breaking is done to both keep me inside my current home, and so that I don't outgrow the flowering room.

Dad does not have a separate veg and flower room. He has a small closet due to him having a small home and a very strict wife. For this reason; after I recover from the cloning process I will be flowered alongside my children. Dad gets one shot a year to grow his medicine, and tries to make the most of it.

Ok, pops says I gotta wrap this up soon. I guess I have been dragging ass. Below you will see a picture of me after several clones were taken. My lengthy tops have all been bent over (supercropped) so that I don't outgrow my space during flowering.

After my babies took root in RapidRooter plugs, they were placed in a GH Rainforest 318. By this time I had recovered from the cloning process. Because of limited room, I will be flowering alongside my clones.

13 clones were chosen. Nutrient solution in the res was 5/5/2.5 (Grow, Micro, Bloom GH flora series). pH was maintained very easily throughout the grow between 5.3 - 6.0 (usually 5.6). The clones were 24" from a 400W HPS. I was about 16".

Previously all clones were maintained under a single 42W CFL in a dome. I, the mother plant was also maintained under a single 42W CFL in a very tight space. We all remained in these conditions for approximately 10 days. 24 hrs of light was given during this time.

The picture below is day 1 of transitioning the clones into the Rainforest. The light was on 15 hours, off 9. It was a bit of an experiment serving a 2 fold purpose. First dad didn't want to put too much light on the barely rooted clones. Second he wanted flowering hormones to begin to accumulate before decreasing the light to 12/12. Dad hypothesized that this may shave a little time off the flowering cycle, while still allowing for a short vegetative period for the clones while they develop roots.

After a brief period of 7 days 15/9 lighting under a 400W HPS we are growing rapidly. The clones' root systems are getting vast without becoming a tangled mess. Shortly after this picture a few of the clones were culled; leaving 10.

The 400W HPS was switched to 12/12 on this day.

Yes, no shit. 5 days after switching to 12/12 the canopy was damn near even. Dad did have to supercrop some of my tops again. Flowers and sex are quite evident. Dad begins to worry Red Diesel may outstretch his headroom. The plan is to grow spears with the clones and supercrop mom into multiple tops.

Dad realizes we need more light and replaces the 400W with a 600W HPS.

Yup we are going to get big! The res solution is 0/7.5/15 (G/M/B GH Flora) until the last 4 weeks. This is dad's first hydro grow and he is playing it safe. Mom just gets a drink in soil as needed for now.

Damn we look good! Nutes have been adjusted in res to 0/10/20 with .75g AN Bloom Booster added. Mom has been getting mollases and 1/6 tsp/gal AN bloom booster for the final 2 - 3 weeks of flowering. Temps are 78 - 81 lights on and 69 - 72 lights off. Humidity runs 35 - 45%.

Dad's gonna let us go until we just pop. However we stink like you can't believe. Dad does not recommend growing this strain unless you have EXCELLENT odor control. Dad used 2 carbon scrubbers, and the infrequent visitor he did have often remarked about smelling ganja from outside. Mind you we are in a sealed room with no light leaks and very little air leak. This shit reeks!

Once we started to look like this, dad knew the time was near. He just needed our unpolinated calyxes to receed and fully swell followed my one last squeeze to fill our trichs. It would be soon.

This is the same bud a little over a week after the last pic. At this time dad harvested a little over 12 oz over the course of the next week. 9.75 oz from the clones in hydro (largest yielded 1.3 oz, smallest yielded .25g!!!), and 2.5 oz from me, the mom. Dad promise to let me snap a picture of a cured bud soon. Maybe when he gets up in the morning.
