I am curious to as well. I have grown way back when lowryder. Didnt really like the buzz. But that was before all the hybrids and other strains. Anyone have anything on this. What strains are good bad. Yields and so on.

I've hurd they way they get autos is they take a really good strain and bread with a shit strain and do some more shit to them,
I really want to try one cuz I'm impatient,
But I don't wanna waist time And money if its not worth it any words of wisdom will help

I've grown Afgan Ryder Kush autos 2x and bothx produced high quality smoke in adequate amounts. I'm currently growing Bubblicious autos .If you're new to growing or just curious give it a shot. The advantage is you'l have bud in about 70 days or less from seed, as oppossed to the more typical time of 90+ days. Some say budn isn't as potent I say it is and I've been enjoying theherb for over 40 years now.

Actually i believe they take a good strain and cross it with a rudarallis (not sure of spelling) a self flowering non potant cannabis plant.

Not anymore. Now they just cross them with other auto's that are very potent. PRetty much the only gene that stays with proper breeding is the auto (from the ruderalis parent).

Just paranoid

I think the only real reason someone would do auto flower is if they lived in a climate with short growing season like the Midwest and you still wanna grow outdoor. Otherwise I don't see a point cuz they never yield as much.

There are other reasons people grow autos --
Outside:
Small, hide them behind the tomato planters
They will flower regardless of the time of year (they are programmed to flower -- climate permitting and location dependent, you could get a couple/few grows through the year)
Inside:
Multi-shelf with no worry for separate grow areas
Small for cabinet/closet grows
Can keep the lights on 24/7 to increase yield
Can grow autos while vegging photos -- slip a couple in when you have extra room and want some bonus bud

Some disadvantages:
Good genetics are a MUST...no skating by with bad seeds
Probably slightly less potent...but if you get good genetics...the gap is narrow
Most people say autos are easy to grow. Yes, they are easy to grow. They are also easy to stunt and slow growth as well. If you slow their development down, they will rarely catch up. They are programmed for a life of limited veg, flowering, and dying. They have a set time to do this regardless of what hell you put the plant through. Stress and auto out by transplanting, screwing up nutes, PH problams -- and she could spend weeks trying to survive. If she is in survival mode and not developing her flowers, she is going to have drastically lower yields (this could have something to do with the bad reviews you are hearing). To do a good job on an auto is to dial everything in -- for that reason, I think they are tougher to grow than photos.

Very nice write up.

Thank you pyewacket that answeres just about every question I had, I think I want to try it, just to try it maybe have a fast grow, also I live in Alaska. And our summers are short, but last summer my buddy just tossed some seeds, and they shot up, but he didn't get them in for flower, with auto we could maybe get a good out door thing goin

about autoflowering, they flower by time.. good for those who wanna have fast-growing plants because they'll start to flower after 2 or 3 weeks from fully sprouting.. they grow short so you can easily grow them indoors even with a limited space.

they do not produce as much yield as the regular and feminized strains do
