Greetings all.
I started my second grow a week ago and my little babies are beginning to show their heads.............well one is anyways. I figured this could be a cool way of keeping track of progress. Promise to post pics up tomorrow as its late here and too dark for pics. No idea of strain so don't ask but if you know at any point during the growing cycle then be sure to post it up. Any input is appreciated however i will be sticking to fairly organic sort of growing methods and apart from maybe a bit of fertilizer or cow shit and maybe some big bud juice not much else will i be willing to use. Interested in any trimming/topping techniques to help increase the bud yield also. Trying to prove to others (and myself)that the conditions in OZ are so good that you don't even need to try hard at all to get a nice looking plant! Pics of very first sprouts will be up tomorrow, until then, i'm out :eyesmoke:

P.S - its worth noting at this point im a little late, maybe a month late, to get a perfect start to the season by oz standards.

well here they are! so far 2 out of 5 have germinated, others may be upside down or deeper so may take longer.

the one on the left still has the seed casing attached to its head so it looks a little wierd, if it hasn't dropped off by tonight i will remove it so the leaves can start getting some sun :)

well the babies are coming along nicely, now a 3rd one has popped its head up (far left) so 3 out of 5 so far, which is pretty good considering they are just some seeds i found in a mix.

they are all together in a small tray but i will transplant into individual pots as soon as i know which seeds will sprout (hopefully all of them). i sprouted them directly in the same soil i will grow them in so they will not have to develop a tolerance to the final plots soil and this should help reduce any shock when they finally go in the ground.

awesome as mate =D
go australia!!
each new picture you post you should say how old the plant is
e.g 14 days
thats always good for people looking at the growth of your plants =D

they are looking good
any idea of strain?

hahah thanks dopedogg, will do.

well here are the pics from today. one more is popping it head up looks like i will get 4 out of 5 sprouting which i am happy about. my other 8 or 10 seedlings from a mate are ready but i cant get them for a while yet , will post up pics when i get them.

i bought some MAXICROP INDOOR PLANT FOOD to feed the seedlings with. I know its outdoor growing but it is supposed to be good for potted plants and should be good until i put them in the ground.

Any ideas on how long from germination until i can start using it? i don't want to burn the poor babies.

MAXICROP INDOOR PLANT FOOD (ideal for potted plants, contains worlds first liquid seaweed plant food.....apparently....lol)

Contains:

Seaweed extract 6.5%
Nitrogen 1.3%
Phosphorus 0.8%
Potassium 2.1%
Iron .0055%
Copper .05%
Zinc .033%
Maganese .028%
Boron .011%
Molybdenum .0002%
Biuret .011%
Water 82.82%

Doesn't mean much to me but i put it here for anyone interested in the chemistry.

These Babies are now 10 days old, that is since planting so includes time it took to germinate. If you want since germination age then they are 3 days old :)

So any ideas on how long from germination until i can start using it?

hey again mate :)
just by the looks of that fertaliser your going to be using, there doesnt seem to be much nitrogen which is the key element for growth during the vegative phase of the plants life cycle, so you might want to get a fertaliser with a higher nitrogen content =D

the seedling stage usually lasts 4 - 6 weeks depending on what strain and stuff
but i wouldnt usually use fertaliser before that time is up
so maybe after a month, slowly introduce some =D

im gonna follow your thread, make me proud haha
good luck

thanks mate, i hope i make every aussie proud! nitrogen hey? will do! no idea of strain on these ones as they are just bag seed but my my, was a nice mix!

going to transplant them into bigger individual pots soon so they can grow at their own free will :)

well i transferred the 4 seedlings i have into their own individual pots today so they can grow more freely. only took a photo of one coz they pretty much all look the same right now. i also moved the pots to my tomato section of my vegie garden (i was germinating them behind a plastic screen at the house) so that they can get some inspiration from my flourishing tomato plants. :) they will also get a broader range of sunlight than they did previously at the house so they should start to really kick off

the pots are about 15cm in diameter and 20cm tall. When they get big enough to warrant leaving those pots (about a foot or so in height) they will be going into the ground at the grow site

4 DAYS OLD

hey all time for an update

i haven't bothered for awhile as there has been not much growing progress due to transplant shock i think, also not much nutes in sandy soil.

so here is a pic of the biggest of my seedlings now it's 10 days old, starting nutes tomorrow hopefully at 1/2 strength to see if i can boost them a bit now. got some better nutes with much more nitrogen than the ones i have. will post up specs later

yeah man looks good for a baby, but she will kick off soon!
getting my other seedlings off a mate tomorrow so will post some pics up then. its been raining heaps lately but i'm going to go give my babies some nutes later anyway coz i think they need some.

new nutes i am going to use (never used the other ones, took advice and got one with more nitrogen) is

POWER FEED

Nitrogen 12%
Potassium 7%
Phosphorus 1.4%
Potassium Humate 3.08%

coz they are only babies still i am going to use 1/2 strength just to give them a bit of a nute boost as i am sure the sandy soil they are in has bugger all nutes in it

lol yeah how bloody hectic has the rain been haha!!
mate they might still be a bit small to even use any fertaliser on
im not sure how big they are now, but you might just fry them if you water them with it :(
just gotta wait till they are outta the seedling stage, usually about 6 weeks old

SORRY ABOUT THE LATENESS OF THIS UPDATE!

i have been away for a week in the middle of nowhere. i received 5 seedlings sunday last week (not yesterday) and unfortunately 2 of my original 4 have died from transplant shock (fuck!).

so here are some pics. the bigger ones are all the new seedlings (no idea of strain but they came from a guy who REALLY REALLY knows his stuff)

i found 2 snails on them today eating them! little fuckers. i killed them but i will fix it up properly tomorrow as its dark here now. so u will see some slight damage to 1 or 2 of them.

they need to be transplanted soon as getting too big for pots, which i will find some time to do when I'm not at work this week.

they are looking a bit sick at the moment. im pretty sure its because the tomato plants they were in between have grown so big they blocked a lot of the light going to them, so i have moved them now to a bare spot where they can get much more sunlight :weed:

well here is another update, some of the plants i have transplanted into bigger pots, as i felt the size of the pots was creating an issue. i.e- they have no been growing very fast so i think the roots were getting a little bit cramped. otherwise here they are! Some of the leaves are dying on the bottom. any ideas as to what caused this? Is it a potassium deficiency?

the bigger ones are about 6 weeks old, the smaller ones are almost exactly 4 weeks old since germination.

considering its summer here the weather hasn't heated up very much yet, but its ok, coz until late april its still quite hot here so i should still get a good harvest :)

time for an UPDATE! was having alot of trouble with my phone (which i use to take pics) so i haven't been able to update for AGES!

well i put 3 of the 6 plants in the ground today, the other 3 will go in tomorrow.

firstly i dug holes, about 2 1/2 feet square. I placed abalone shells (mother of pearl shells) in the bottom of the hole and covered them with about 6 or 7 large pilchards (sardines). If you live near the coast you can find abalone shells on the beach. If you dont, you can buy them from craft shops. The shells should help to hold a bit of water during the summer time so i dont have to water as often.

then i poured some potting mix into the hole, and mixed in some of the original dirt from the hole and some mixed animal manure. i repeated this process until the hole was full and it was mixed together fairly roughly. i should point out the soil i have here is very sandy and i have done this to try and get a big boost in the plants growth.

i then transplanted my babies from their pots into the ground, and sprinkled the surface with a bit more mixed manure.

so here are the pics. they look small but the two bigger ones are 12 inches maybe 14 inches tall.

they are about 5.2 weeks old :)

haha heck yes ! thats awesome man
its been a while :D
they should really take off now

you might wanna spread some dead leaves or whatever around the area so it doesnt stick out with all the dug up dirt :D
and i think people usually leave the dead fish and crap for a few weeks before planting, but hopefully it works out for you :)

looking good !!

time for an update! they are really starting to take off now! the two in the first pic i topped, after all i have 6 plants and i'm curious to see the difference it will make to the plants growth, as i have never topped before. the nutes i am currently feeding once every 2 weeks but may up it a little bit as they seem very healthy at the moment. the wire is to prevent kangaroos from eating them....which is working well for now :)

the are about 6-7 weeks old now :)
