When is the best time to plant seeds here in oz??? I just planted some but not sure if its the correct time to do so. Also how long does it take to grow to its maximum??
The last time I grew outdoors was about 20yrs ago. I don`t remember when I planted but for some reason I seem to be thinking that I let the plant grow for about a year.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
edit: also I have 2 seedlings approx 1inch and tommorrow the weather is going to be hot. Should I give the seedling any shade??? They are not in pots, straight in the ground.
Spring time is a good time to start planting your seeds. If you ever forget, fathers day is the first Sunday in September in Australia....just happens to be between the 1st and 7th day of Spring (as far as the calendar is concerned). You can plant later in the season without any problems, just that your plants will not have as much time to vegetate so will be a bit smaller.
How long does it take to grow to it's maximum? Depends on the strain. Indica dominant strains will be ready earlier and Sativa dominant strains later. For your plants to start forming buds, they need to produce enough of the hormone to get them into gear. This hormone is produced at night time, so the longer the nights, the more hormone is produced. If you read some hydro threads you will find that the growers start off with a 18-6 light schedule in order for the plant to veg and grow. Once it hits the desired size they change to a 12-12 light schedule to get the plant to bud. The 18-6 light schedule can be thought of as spring and the 12-12 light schedule can be thought as autumn (or at least the days getting shorter and shorter until winter hits).
Amber alert. That is a thread started by subcool about when to harvest your plant to achieve a desired high. When you decide to harvest it pretty much comes down to the individual and what sort of high you're looking for. Trichs being the easiest and reliable way of telling when;
Mostly Clear = More of an Energetic High
Mostly Amber = More of a Stoned High
Obviously 50/50 would give you a bit of a mix.
The high also of course depends on the Sativa/Indica side of things, but the above info will still play a part into it.
want know if your plants are done. Post a pic in that thread and fdd2blk will tell you how long he thinks you have to go until harvest.
If that is all a bit too much for you, then a rule of thumb is when about 2/3 of the pistols have turned brown (although this isn't the most reliable way of telling)

. The sun gets unbearable sometimes, It was probably since my roomate was a dick and forgot to water them, but he only missed that one day, so some shade until theyre more developed is what I've been going with, I'm still getting the ropes and learning new ways to grow.
