mate...my electricity bill is the biggest expense I have other than rent and food. I plan on turning my front yard into a food producing area as well as getting solar panels installed (and getting that expense put through on the home loan)...the solar panels even increase the value of the property...

So not having to pay for food and electricity allows me to put all my money towards paying off a mortgage...so, in my scenario I see it as a good investment.

No worries man, respect, its not a viable option for me, as i said though, it may work for those that can afford a good system.

I got some good little tricks for you regarding rentals man if you run a tent indoors, some little pointers and tips that i use in my grow, it makes inspections and life easy as well as helping create a awesome environment for your ladies.

Biggest issue with tents indoor is temps and humidty, 2 things you can do without causing unfixable damage.

My first trick is, on my intake, the property is on solid concrete slab so i cant draw air via a floor duct by pulling the cover out and removing the ducting, so, measure up your window frame, go to bunnings and for less than $10 buy a length of MDF or Chip board that is roughly the right dimensions. cut to size, keep in mind the existing window piece and frame, my actual window slides from left to right, so i need to keep in mind the width of the window,my piece fits into the existing windows edge and all around the frame, cut a 150mm or your duct size hole in it, i painted mine same color as outside so its less obvious, you could also buy for $5 a vent to cover the intake. ( You can buy window kits for portable a/c's for common size windows, i chose to make my own ).

now sit in your window, close the window and using a piece of dowel ( cut to length - Close window on your piece, cut length to stop old window from moving backwards and opening ), attach your ducting and off yo go, its totally secure ( youd have to kick the living fuck outta the piece and buckle the frame to get it out or in ) fresh cold air for your intake, if its a hot day, open window take piece out, remove ducting off piece, turn on a/c and draw from inside room while a/c on. If inspection comes, take your window slot out, close window, done. no mess no fuss.

Now, your exhaust, theres 2 options here;

1. Speak to landlord and/or agent and ask.

2. Just go ahead.

I opted to go ahead and later asked, all is ok, so upon inspection, all good, no surprises.

Go to Bunnings, spend $10 on a ducted roof vent, holesaw the correct size and screw in your vent ( keep the centre piece you cut out ), now remove the screen attach your ducting and bam, vent hot air into roof space. If you go ahead and dont ask, upon inspection, you can get the piece you cut out, spack fill it back in, quick slap of paint and its good as new, or if you asked, just put vent cover on and your golden. keeps my temps stable on 30-40 degree days like a charm without running extra or expensive a/c's inside tent.

i told landlord that the room overheats during the summer months and is unbearable, uninhabitable due to excessive heat, was it ok if i install a vent to the roof space thats approx 200mm x 100mm to vent some of the heat out, they said fine.

Solar is a good investment if you can afford to fork out the coin for a good system.. You can get a cheap 3kw system with the gov rebate for about 5-10 grand... But these are the low end of the market... If you can afford it get the best there is cause the cell life is alot longer.. if ya have a good credit rating any power company has a finance option for the system... We paid our outright with the house ... Pays to get the right house insurance... Like alot of people found out in jan 2011 in qld they had flood cover but the definition for flood has many meanings so they were not covered when they thought they were.. Now in hindsight the gov has made law the definition of flood in regards to insurance policies.. ie rain , river rising ,accidental, are now covered under general flood cover..

I'd love to go solar, it's all in the plan but yeah I didn't jump on the rebate, worked it out and decided that would just be a drop in the ocean. My house needs a bit of work so eventually I will get past renos and maintennance and get some things done. I would like to be practically of the grid, using rain/greywater, solar power and solid permaculture but it all cost money to get started. I already grow what I can to subsidise our diets and medicinal requirements but the ideal is so much better!

Hey guys just stopping by to let you know of my successful grow G13 blueberry gum, soo good! I water cured the majority of it, but dry cured some for the taste, I have to say cool fruity smell I had brought one plant to flower, roomate (non-smoker) would walk in and would think it was an air freshener with a slight tinge of weed as you approach the stealth cab.

Just remember to keep the holesaw cut out, if you dont ask landlord then you have to spack fill the cut out back in and paint, takes like 15 mins to fix, you use a small length of wood, nail your cut out to the piece, then insert into hole, flip cut out over so it drops into the actual hole, the piece of wood you nailed it to will hold it in place, now spack fill it around the edge and over nail, leave to dry for 10 mins, sand back and slap paint on it, all done, super easy........... or just ask landlord, if you can install vent due to excessive heat.

flowa, mate, couldnt you sit your filter on floor of tent in corner then exhaust into roof space, wouldnt need to put filter in roof space then. surely youd have enough room on floor in corner as you only run 1 pot, your lady sits higher up also and net height looks easily waist height, should have plenty of room for small 150mm filter in corner.

i dont see the reliability of having the filter on the floor as the heat is up the top of the tent, and nah, i really don't have that much floor space , i like to be able to get my girl to crawl back there any check things out. she's a wild help in my grow op

If you have plenty of air flow and air currents running in your tent, then it shoudnt matter where it is being drawn from top or bottom, it should circulate the air inside the tent, but youve clearly stated that floor space is your issue, all good.

flowa, you mentioned your going to invest in an air cooled hood, it will make a big difference, then maybe you could look at keeping your filter floor level as with hood theres no heat in tent.

Lots of options, id also like to see you do the same grow as this round using a crop pot ( with under current/without ), the crop pots are the rectangle ones, like a res, the top one has open slots for drainage, you drop a slab of rockwool in it, drop perlite over the rest, run feeders into each corner of crop pot and off you go, the crop pot lets the roots grow outward, now, even a novice gardener should know that a plant's width potential is controlled by the root span, so, allowing your root ball to grow outward pushes the plant to excessively bush out and branch out longer, with your topping technique, feed schedule, etc you should be able to get 2p from your tent.
